What is the
most important thing or person in your life? What are you willing to do to
make this person safe and happy? If it's a thing, what are you willing to do to
keep it? We often see
people literally killing for money or a position of power. But I am not going
to talk about that. I suppose, in
fact, I want to believe the most important thing in your life isn't a thing but a person or a couple of people, what we usually call “family.” It
doesn’t matter if they are family by blood or not. Family is what gives us a
sense of belonging, security, love, and refuge. That is why we want to keep
it safe and happy, in unity. However, it
is hard to keep a family united, isn’t it? We value them, but we don’t really
fight for them as we should, as we fight for the position of power, or money,
or career. Some people sacrifice their family for their career. Maybe they
believe they can fix it later once they get what they want; but can they
really fix it? Can they really be done with their greed for money and power?
Once you taste them, you immediately become addicted. Family. I was
reading the book of Nehemiah. It is about the building of the walls of
Jerusalem after they returned from exile in Babylon. God wanted them to
rebuild it, and He helped them to resist the adversaries. The people of
God forfeit their right to the land when they abandoned their God. Therefore,
God sent them into exile and let the Babylonians destroy the city. When they
completed the time determined by God to be in exile, they started coming back
to their land, because they learned their lesson. But now, there was a lot of
work to do. When we
forfeit being with our family for whatever reason, the comeback demands a lot
of work. Every single member is important and has a crucial job in rebuilding
the structures of that family. Everyone should be working together to rebuild
the foundations of the family. We all have,
at some point, had a break in our family foundation. Why sometimes so hard to
make a family whole again is so hard? My opinion is that not everybody
believed that it could be done. They let the doubts creep into their minds,
weakening the relationships. Like the
rebuilding of the wall, they suffered a lot of threats from the people who
didn’t want them to rebuild the wall. When we let
God do His work in us, everything is possible, even if that means that we
need to work and fight at the same time, like they were ready to do it. They
rebuild the walls with, in one hand, a tool and in the other a weapon, just
in case a war breaks out. The main
point is that all the involved in the rebuilding must be engaged in the
process. No one should be excused. To build
something takes longer and it is harder than destroying it. But I think we
all should be willing to rebuild, especially our families, despite all the
trouble that will come in the process. Nehemiah left
his post and went down to Jerusalem and got to work. He was not a mason; he
was a king's cupbearer, practically a private enologist of the king. Sometimes, we need to get down off our high
horse, humble ourselves, and get to work for something that we say is the
most important thing in our lives. God can do
and does miracles, but often He uses another method of doing miracles: He
uses us. He expects us to trust in Him through the process. How far are
you willing to go to save the relationship within your family? We know what
the first step is. It is the hardest. It’s called forgiveness. You gotta go
back and think about everything that you carry in your heart against that
person, all that hurt and trauma, and really let them go. Forever. Never
think about it again. I still
believe that most of the time, to forgive is necessary to forget. God will
forget all of your sins; Jesus, with His blood, washed us clean. He forgave
us, and we are white as snow. In my understanding, that means never thinking
about that again. Restart. Give all the
credit back to that person that you love; hold nothing back. Just love as you
loved when you first saw this person. Better to forgive and forget than to
regret it when that person dies. |
haviam aprendido a lição.
estruturas familiares. Todos devem trabalhar juntos para reconstruir os
alicerces da família. Todos nós, em algum momento,
enfrentamos uma ruptura na estrutura familiar. Por que, às vezes, é tão
difícil tornar a família íntegra novamente?
nisso. Ainda acredito que, na maioria das
vezes, para perdoar é preciso esquecer. Deus esquecerá todos os seus pecados;
Jesus, com Seu sangue, nos purificou. Ele nos perdoou, e estamos brancos como
a neve.
