Growing in the Fruit of the Spirit - Meet Me On The Bench

Can you choose to be

Joyful? (Full of joy)

Peaceful? (full of peace)

Patient? (full of patience)

Kind? (full of kindness)

Good? (full of goodness)

Faithful? (full of faith)

Gentle? (full of gentleness)

Generous? (full of generosity)

Self-controlled? (totally self-controlled)

Can you choose to be like that all the time? To everyone?

What other religion would promise you that? I am not saying that all Christians are like that all the time. No, we are not, unfortunately. However, we are prone to be more successful than others, do you know why?

When Jesus was lifted to the heavens after his resurrection, he promised that a few days later, His Spirit would come to live in us. The Holy Spirit is our helper. When we live a godly life, a prayer life, and are filled with the Holy Spirit, those are the characteristics that should be seen in us—if not all of them, at least most of them.

Would you like to live like that? To treat people like that? Well, I suppose so.

Why can’t we be like that all the time?

Jesus said, ‘The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak’. When we tend to live by the flesh, giving in to all the flesh’s desires, we are not living by the Spirit but by the flesh. We are being weak.

The apostle Paul said, ‘I can do all things in Him (Jesus Christ) who strengthens me’ (Philippians 4:13).

It is hard but not impossible. Nothing is impossible to God.

If I really want to live like that, what should I do?

First, be watchful for the devil’s traps.

Second, pray without ceasing.

Third, we should read the Word of God, keep it in mind and heart, and try our best to live it.

Fourth, ask the Holy Spirit to guide and teach us to listen to Him. He’ll give us wisdom and strength to go through whatever comes our way.

You, who are a Christian, look at yourself in the mirror. Do you see the fruit of the Spirit in you? Where are you failing?

I fail to be joyful, and my brain doesn’t help me much with that. I do what is in my power, and I take medicines, but I trust in the LORD, who gives me joy. I may not seem joyful all the time, but I am not always sad. I am fighting against sadness, and Jesus is with me in that fight. I pray to the Holy Spirit to fill me with His joy.

What about you? Where are you failing? Which one is your weakness?

We fail all the time in one way or the other. So what? We sin. Everybody sins. We all have our weaknesses. I am no better than anyone else. Are you? You can’t be. So, why should we expect from others what we cannot deliver ourselves? Are you gentle all the time? I don’t believe you are; but you get mad when someone is rude to you. Why? Have you never been rude to anyone?

Someone treated you unfairly when you did good to them. So what? What did the Jews do to Jesus? Are you expecting something different?

May a prayer always be on your lips: “Holy Spirit, give me wisdom. Strengthen me because I may fail to be the person You want me to be. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen”.

Você pode escolher ser

Alegre? (cheio de alegria)

Pacífico? (cheio de paz)

Paciente? (cheio de paciencia)

Bondoso? (cheio de bondade)

Bom?

Fiel? (cheio de fe)

Gentil? (cheio de gentileza)

Generoso? (cheio de generosidade)

Autocontrolado? (totalmente controlado)

Tratar as pessoas assim?

O apóstolo Paulo disse: "Posso todas as coisas naquele (Jesus Cristo) que me fortalece" (Filipenses 4:13).

I see Grace in the time of the Law // Eu vejo Graça no tempo da Lei

People frequently say that the Old Testament is the time of the law, and now we are under the Grace of God. Surprisingly, I just found out an explicit act of the Grace of God in the Old Testament. As I read chapter 9 of Deuteronomy , in which has a title Not because of Righteousness (ESV). I am stunned to see verses 4 - 6, they say: “ Do not say in your heart , after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘ It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you. 5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.6 “Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is not giving y...

How to Recognize Foolishness and Pursue Wisdom A devotional reflection on humility, discernment, and the cost of our choices Opening Scripture “Do not be wise in your own eyes.” — Proverbs 3:7 Devotional Reading A fool is not the same as an insane person. In my understanding, an insane person is unable to reason clearly; things may not make sense in their mind. A fool, however, is someone who rejects counsel, ignores warnings, disobeys what is right, and acts from wrong motivations. If a person does the wrong thing for the right reason, we may still be able to understand the motive. But foolishness is different: it is often rooted in ignorance, arrogance, and a narrow mind that refuses wisdom. How can we recognize a wise person? In my understanding, a wise person does not act impulsively. This person does not need to suffer through every mistake in order to learn, because wisdom can also come from observing the experiences of ot...

Doubts and fears leave us halfway // Dúvidas e medos nos deixam na metade do caminho

Despite all the sad news I got this week, we are still standing. I am in the Book of Joshua, in my annual Bible reading. There is a part in the book that is kind of boring. It is the distribution of the cities and borders. It is tempting to skip this part, but something that I heard from the guy from the Bible Project usually says, “it is wisdom literature”, or “meditation literature”. There is something important besides geographical information in these texts. And there is. Joshua 17:18c “though the Canaanites have chariots fitted with iron and though they are strong, you can drive them out”. In the beginning of the book and several other parts too, the LORD says to Joshua, “Be strong and courageous”. What does that mean? What is this book really about? Well, the way I see it might not be the same way you see it. The way I see this book is about how we trust God and obey Him. Then we will see Him doing amazing things. It doesn’t matter how n...
