I need help being good / Eu preciso de ajudar para ser bom

Lord,

Thank you for hearing me. Help me with my weaknesses. Let love showed by me be genuine; teach me to abhor evil and hold fast to what is good. Help me to love others with brotherly love affection and outdo one another in showing honor. Lord, I don’t want to be slothful in zeal, but fervent in spirit, to serve the Lord. I also want to rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and constant in prayer. Give me, O Lord, a generous heart to contribute to the needs of the saints and seek hospitality.

Jesus put in my mouth only blessings, especially for those who persecute me, and for those to who I have difficulty relating. Give me a sympathetic heart to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. Lord, I confess that I haven’t been putting enough effort to live in harmony with one another, please, help me with that. I don’t want to be haughty but associate with the lowly. Help me to see that I am not that wise, only You know what is best. Stop me when I am prone to repay evil with evil, but show me how to do what is honorable in the sight of all.

Lord,  one more time,  I need to learn how to live peaceably with all. Remove, God, from my mind any thought about vengeance, but leaving that with You, for it is written “Vengeance is mine, I will repay” says the Lord. Instead, help me to obey your commandments and be good even to those who have not been good to me; if they need anything that I can provide for them, inspire me to help them.

Finally, Lord of my life, do not let me be overcome by evil but help me overcome evil with good.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

(Romans 12: 9 – 21)

Senhor,

Obrigado por me ouvir. Ajude-me com minhas fraquezas.

(Romanos 12: 9-21)

My take on these stories // Minha opinião nessas histórias

The 2 Samuel 9 and 10 are about David’s kindness toward others. One person received his kindness humbly, knowing that wasn’t expected from that king in particular. Saul was the first king of Israel and did not obey the word of the LORD. Therefore, the kingdom was taken away from him and his lineage. God announced to Saul that he was going to give the kingdom to someone else. Being David. Because David was not a descendant of Saul, once he started reigning, it was expected that the new king, non-descendant of the former, would kill all the former king’s descendants so no one would stand in the line of succession. Bu David did not do that. Instead, he chose to show kindness toward the last person from Saul’s house.  Saul’s grandson accepted David’s kindness. And we have a beautiful story about grace.  Chapter 10, however, tells a different story. A story of a man who didn’t accept David’s kindness because that was what he was. A person who suspected everyone around him. He ...

Arise and eat // Levante e coma

He came to a broom bush, sat under it, and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough,  Lord ,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”   5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once, an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”   6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the  Lord  came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”   8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19: 4-8) How many times have you wished that this life were over? I have wished that many times. Sometimes it is just too painful, or sad, or hopeless, isn’t it? You know, Elijah...

Solitude and Silence // Solidão e silêncio

In moments of peace and tranquility, it is useful to remember times of stress and struggle by Thomas à Kempis Whenever you are enjoying some time of peace and rest, it is useful to call to mind those times when you have been busy, overworked, or stressed. Whenever you are enjoying the calmness of solitude and silence, it is useful to reflect on those occasions when you have been assaulted with noise and activity. Indeed, calling such things to mind is a sure and effective way of learning to love and value the peaceful tranquility of your times of solitude! If you reflect upon how easily you can become anxious or worried, or how little it takes to perturb your soul, you will also realize that the achievement of true inner peace is not something which human efforts can ever achieve on their own. Left to yourself, how often you have fallen prey to anxiety, even when there is little or no real need to worry! How often, even when you are surro...
