Problems? You're not the only one with them. // Problemas? Você não é o único com eles.

Psalm 34 is a very beautiful Psalm to meditate on. There are so many promises in this psalm.

It teaches us how the Lord loves and cares for us. And how he loves a humble and grateful heart.

Psalm 34: 1. I will honor the Lord at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth. 2 My soul will be proud to tell about the Lord. Let those who suffer hear it and be filled with joy. 3 Give great honor to the Lord with me. Let us praise His name together.

When we are happy and life goes as planned is easy to be grateful. But if we make being grateful a part of ourselves, a habit or a feature of our character, when the times of trouble come it won’t be that hard to be grateful even when we think we have nothing to be grateful for. Being grateful for everything, good and bad, means that we know what kind of God we serve. The God who provides for our needs, we see His providence and later we understand his purposes to work in us through a difficult phase. This is also known as the fear of the Lord. It is written (we see it every day) the sun rises and sets for everyone. The rain falls to the good and to the bad people. We can also widen a little bit as the natural disaster comes to righteous and unrighteous. So, why would it be different with you? We all have our bad moments in life. And we all should learn something from them.

4 I looked for the Lord, and He answered me. And He took away all my fears. 5 They looked to Him and their faces shined with joy. Their faces will never be ashamed. 6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him. And He saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the Lord stays close around those who fear Him, and He takes them out of trouble. 8 O taste and see that the Lord is good. How happy is the man who trusts in Him! 9 O fear the Lord, all you who belong to Him. For those who fear Him never want for anything. 10 The young lions suffer want and hunger. But they who look for the Lord will not be without any good thing. 11 Come, you children, listen to me. I will teach you the fear of the Lord. 12 Who is the man who has a desire for life, and wants to live long so that he may see good things? 13 Keep your tongue from sin and your lips from speaking lies. 14 Turn away from what is sinful. Do what is good. Look for peace and follow it. 15 The eyes of the Lord are on those who do what is right and good. His ears are open to their cry. 16 The face of the Lord is against those who sin. He will keep the people of the earth from remembering them. 17 Those who are right with the Lord cry, and He hears them. And He takes them from all their troubles. 18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart. And He saves those who are broken in spirit.

Be right with the Lord. What does that mean? It means that we should get to know him and never cease to do so. The more we know Him, the more we’ll fear Him. The more we fear Him, the more we’ll obey Him. And that, my friend, is wisdom. Once we learn why fear Him and therefore obey Him. He will take care of us beautifully. Even in our worst moments, when we fail, like Peter failed when denied Jesus. Every time I read that passage; I cry. I cannot imagine how sorrowful, bad, and shameful he must’ve felt. After all those years, and talks, and saying that he was ready to go to prison and die with him, he really denied Him.  How awfully must have been for Peter? But Jesus had already forgiven him. Jesus knows all our weaknesses. He also knows that we will fail Him so many times, over and over again. If it is not this thing, it will be that thing; it doesn’t really matter what our weaknesses are. What matters is what we do after we fail. We must be humble enough to recognize that we have failed and repented from that. Even we know that there is a great chance of doing it again if, at that moment, we are truly sorry about it, He forgives us.

19 A man who does what is right and good may have many troubles. But the Lord takes him out of them all. 20 He keeps all his bones safe. Not one of them is broken. 21 Sin will kill the sinful. And those who hate God’s people will be held guilty and punished forever. 22 The Lord saves the soul of those who works for Him. None of those who trust in Him will be held guilty.

Everybody goes through terrible times every now and then. It is just part of life. I heard another day on a tv show someone saying: “The one who doesn’t have scars has not lived.”

What kind of life can you imagine without suffering and hardships? From the poorest to the richest, everyone has gone through difficult, very difficult moments in life. And we all must learn something from them. For our own good.

The only thing I say is that it is much more peaceful going through these hardships trusting in the One who knows everything than trusting in myself alone.

Let's pray for Ukraine. They are going through a terrible thing. But they are tough and God is with them.

11 Venham, meus filhos, e ouçam-me; eu os ensinarei a temer o Senhor.

Jesus conhece todas as nossas fraquezas.

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe...

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost...

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the ...
