How can a God of love...? // Como pode um Deus de amor...?

 

Another day I was watching a priest talk about idols. It was very interesting. But the thing that really caught my eye was something he said: “God comes and accepts you the way you are, why aren’t you accepting the way He is?” Let me rephrase, I have talked about this once or twice. We try to get God to do what we want, the way we want, at the time we want.  So, why do we bother having a God? What we really want is a slave with superpowers that can give us whatever we want, whenever we think it is best.  People ignore His laws, but somehow, they still have the sense of Justice God has put in us. But it is only justice if we are the ones feeling unjustified. God sees it differently. James 1: 2-8 tells us a lot of things. You see, there is no passage in the Bible saying that the God to be God will do everything to keep you from problems, sadness, misfortunes, and tragedies. On the contrary, Jesus said, “in the world, you will have tribulation”. James teaches something more “count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” The world is the way it is because of man. Not because God isn’t a God of love, and people can’t believe that a God of love would allow such misery on the earth. They forget that when God created the earth everything was perfect, he even let humans choose how they wanted to live. They chose to live far from God, to have their own view of what is good and what is evil; therefore, this world that we live in today is the result of their choice. But as a God of love, he will restore the earth as He had planned since the beginning.  Another thing people forget and tend to blame on God, especially when they are suffering. “how can God allow ME (this good person, who “always done well to others) go through such illness, disability or whatever…?  The way I see the world and these new generations. The problem is exactly that. Parents who don’t allow their children to go through a rough patch. They are always there for them, it is not wrong, but doesn’t do them any good, does it? How would they learn to solve problems? How would they mature? We all know that to learn something we need to experience g. How would you know the worth of health if you have never been sick? If you have never been sad, how do you know what joy is? There are so many things in the world that we need to go through to even teach others, help others, and comfort others. And we will only be able to do that if we have been through it ourselves. It isn’t easy. And why should it be? It must be hard so we can look up and recognize that we can’t do it by ourselves. We need Him. We without him will fail in everything. If we have achieved anything it isn’t our own merit, it was His mercy. But most people aren’t able to recognize that. There is too much pride. Don’t you see the sun? God created it to give light to good people and to bad people. The same amount. The same goes for problems and joys and health and sickness. Everyone has a portion of everything. And at the end of those verses in James, he says “if anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.” In other words, if you can’t seem to understand that, in my point of view you should be asking God for wisdom. Ask him to make these events that seem so unfair to you clear. Ask him to help you accept and be grateful for that, even though it sounds weird to be grateful for something bad happening in your life right now. Pray for those who are in distress, in a war zone, people with hunger, and so on. If you can’t do anything now, God can. God is making you stronger, wiser, more graceful, merciful, and even helpful. You’ll never know when someone will knock on your door asking for help because they are going through the same thing you have been. But James continues “but let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind”. The key word here is faith. Without faith, you cannot please God. That is a fact. If you ever want something from God, you must first believe in Him. If you don’t believe but somehow you manage to want to, just say out loud “God, help me with my unbelief”, and don’t give up. The Holy Spirit is the one who has the job of opening your heart and mind to believe. He is the only one who knows your mind. The sincerity of it.  A good father knows that the children should at some point be responsible for their own mistakes. If these children are smart, they will know when to ask for help. Let them come first. Let them face the difficulties. Let them learn from their mistakes. God is a good Father. He is waiting for His children to come to Him asking for help. God gave us all that we need to know to be a good kid to him. That’s all we ever wanted. Be a good kid to our parents. Make them proud. God left His Word. It is up to us to make Him proud. In summary, don’t badmouth God because you are a spoiled child. If you don’t believe it because you are having problems or because the world is not a paradise, all I have to tell you is I am sorry for you. God will make a new earth in due time. If you believed in His Word, you would know that, and you wouldn’t be in despair because the world is so bad right now. You would be at peace, just like I am and all who believe. His Word has never failed.  This is who God is. He has laws, he is perfect and we are not. He sees everything and knows everything. He created everything. Can you accept God the way He is? He won’t change a bit. That is a guarantee.

Outro dia eu estava assistindo a um padre falar sobre ídolos. Foi muito interessante. Mas o que mais me chamou a atenção foi algo que ele disse: “Deus vem e te aceita do jeito que você é, por que você não aceita do jeito que Ele é?” Deixe-me reformular, já falei sobre isso uma ou duas vezes. Estamos tentando fazer com que Deus faça o que queremos, do jeito que queremos, na hora que queremos. Então, por que nos preocupamos em ter um Deus? O que realmente queremos é um escravo com superpoderes que possa nos dar o que quisermos, quando acharmos melhor. As pessoas ignoram Suas leis, mas de alguma forma, elas ainda têm o senso de Justiça que Deus colocou em nós. Mas só é justiça se formos nós que nos sentirmos injustificados. Deus vê isso de forma diferente. Tiago 1: 2-8 nos diz muitas coisas. Veja bem, não existe nenhuma passagem na Bíblia dizendo que o Deus para ser Deus fará de tudo para te livrar de problemas, tristezas, infortúnios e tragédias. Pelo contrário, disse Jesus, “no mundo tereis tribulações”. Tiago ensina algo mais: “Meus irmãos, considerem motivo de grande alegria o fato de enfrentarem provações de vários tipos, pois vocês sabem que a prova da sua fé produz firmeza. E deixe a firmeza ter seu pleno efeito, para que você seja perfeito e completo, sem faltar em nada.” O mundo é como é por causa do homem. Não porque Deus não é um Deus de amor, e as pessoas não podem acreditar que um Deus de amor permita tamanha miséria na terra. Esquecem-se que quando Deus criou a terra tudo era perfeito, ele até deixou o ser humano escolher como queria viver. Escolheram viver longe de Deus, ter uma visão própria do que é bom e do que é mau; portanto, este mundo em que vivemos hoje é resultado de sua escolha. Mas como um Deus de amor, ele restaurará a terra como planejou desde o início. Outra coisa que as pessoas esquecem e tendem a colocar a culpa em Deus, principalmente quando estão sofrendo. “como Deus pode permitir que EU (essa boa pessoa, que “sempre fez o bem aos outros) passe por tal doença, deficiência ou o que quer que seja…? A forma como vejo o mundo e estas novas gerações. O problema é exatamente esse. Pais que não permitem que seus filhos passem por uma fase difícil. Eles estão sempre lá para eles, não é errado, mas não faz bem a eles, não é? Como aprenderiam a resolver problemas? Como eles amadureceriam? Todos nós sabemos que para aprender algo precisamos experimentar.  Como você saberia o valor da saúde se nunca esteve doente? Se você nunca esteve triste, como sabe o que é alegria? Há tantas coisas no mundo pelas quais precisamos passar até mesmo para ensinar os outros, ajudar os outros e confortar os outros. E só seremos capazes de fazer isso se tivermos passado por isso nós mesmos. Não é fácil. E por que deveria ser? Deve ser difícil para que possamos olhar para cima e reconhecer que não podemos fazer isso sozinhos. Nós precisamos Dele. Nós sem ele falharemos em tudo. Se conseguimos alguma coisa, não foi mérito nosso, foi a Sua misericórdia. Mas a maioria das pessoas não consegue reconhecer isso. Há muito orgulho. Você não vê o sol? Deus o criou para dar luz às pessoas boas e às pessoas más. A mesma quantidade. O mesmo vale para problemas e alegrias, saúde e doença. Todo mundo tem uma porção de tudo. E no final desses versículos em Tiago, ele diz “se alguém tem falta de sabedoria, peça-a a Deus, que a todos dá generosamente sem censura, e ser-lhe-á dada”. Em outras palavras, se você não consegue entender isso, no meu ponto de vista você deveria estar pedindo sabedoria a Deus. Peça a ele para esclarecer esses eventos que parecem tão injustos para você. Peça a ele para ajudá-lo a aceitar e ser grato por isso, mesmo que pareça estranho ser grato por algo ruim acontecendo em sua vida agora. Ore por aqueles que estão em perigo, em zona de guerra, pessoas com fome e assim por diante. Se você não pode fazer nada agora, Deus pode. Deus está tornando você mais forte, mais sábio, mais gracioso, misericordioso e até útil. Você nunca saberá quando alguém baterá à sua porta pedindo ajuda porque está passando pela mesma coisa que você. Mas Tiago continua “mas peça com fé, sem duvidar, pois aquele que duvida é como uma onda do mar que é impelida e agitada pelo vento”. A palavra-chave aqui é fé. Sem fé, você não pode agradar a Deus. Isso é um fato. Se você quiser algo de Deus, você deve primeiro acreditar Nele. Se você não acredita, mas de alguma forma consegue querer, apenas diga em voz alta “Deus, ajude-me com minha incredulidade” e não desista. O Espírito Santo é quem tem a função de abrir seu coração e sua mente para crer. Ele é o único que conhece sua mente. A sinceridade dela. Um bom pai sabe que os filhos devem, em algum momento, ser responsáveis por seus próprios erros. Se essas crianças forem espertas, saberão quando pedir ajuda. Deixe-os vir primeiro. Deixe-os enfrentar as dificuldades. Deixe-os aprender com seus erros. Deus é um bom Pai. Ele está esperando que Seus filhos venham a Ele pedindo ajuda. Deus nos deu tudo o que precisamos saber para sermos bons filhos para ele. Isso é tudo que sempre quisemos. Ser um bom filho para nossos pais. Deixe-os orgulhosos. Deus deixou Sua Palavra. Cabe a nós torná-lo orgulhoso. Em resumo, não fale mal de Deus porque você é uma criança mimada. Se você não acredita porque está com problemas ou porque o mundo não é um paraíso, só tenho a lhe dizer: sinto muito por você. Deus fará uma nova terra no devido tempo. Se você acreditasse em Sua Palavra, saberia disso e não ficaria desesperado porque o mundo está tão ruim agora. Você estaria em paz, assim como eu e todos os que acreditam. Sua Palavra nunca falhou. Este é quem é Deus. Ele tem leis, ele é perfeito e nós não. Ele vê tudo e sabe tudo. Ele criou tudo. Você pode aceitar em Deus do jeito que Ele é? Ele não vai mudar nem um pouco. Isso é uma garantia.
