Behind the discouragement wall // Atrás da parede do desânimo

“Then the people of the land discouraged the people of Judah and made them afraid to build and bribed counselors against them to frustrate their purpose, all the days of the Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. (Ezra 4:4)”

I have been discouraged many times. Sometimes there are people who come into our lives to stop us from doing things. Because of envy or because they just don’t believe in us, they think they are protecting us from ourselves. They think they know us better. Maybe. Sometimes, it is essential to have a little bit of fear, so we don’t believe we are invincible or that we can do whatever we want without thinking it through.

How to discern among the right amount of fear, wisdom, and boldness.

I like saying that if we don’t try we will never know what we are able to do. That doesn’t mean that I’ll do whatever I put my mind to. It is a thin line here.

We cannot let just any people say what we can or cannot do, but we cannot also shut wise people out because of pride.

Pride is something dangerous. It hurts more than helps us accomplish anything. The best sense to have is humbleness and a little bit more boldness.

Sometimes we will fail. We will make mistakes. Unavoidably. I dare to say that it is important to make mistakes. We should use them to learn. To grow up. To wise up. We also should listen to people who love us. Sometimes they have more fear than us because they are afraid of losing us. That is okay. But their fear can only stop us if what we are thinking about doing is something really stupid.

We will face discouragement often. Most of them come from ourselves. Fear paralyzes us. This kind of fear is not healthy.

In the Bible, we read God saying “Fear not” and, “Be courageous”. Jesus said, “I am with you always”.

If you have doubts about something, pray over it. Pray some more. How about asking God to clear your mind and let you feel the right feeling about it? Ask Him to guide your feelings. If He knows that thing is something really important for you, ask Him to fill you with boldness and wisdom to go for it.

For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). We have the power of moving forward and the power of sabotaging ourselves. It is comfortable being still, where nothing changes. But God wants us to conquer, to be victorious, to face trials, and win wars. He wants us to be brave, to love the unlovable, to be gentle when nobody is, and to smile at the unknown. And above all to trust in Him that He is always with us.

Don’t let the enemy (sometimes we are our own enemy) thwart the plans God has for you. You gotta keep going ahead. Moving forward. Looking up to heaven where your help comes from. The devil wants you unmovable, stagnated, unfulfilled, unaccomplished, and defeated.

You will get somewhere as soon as you start moving. The Lord our God will fight for us. He will fight for you. Just march on. Remember Joshua? He had to start moving, and the river opened up. (Joshua 3:13)

Atrevo-me a dizer que é importante errar. Devemos usá-los para aprender. Crescer.

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe...

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost...

Choose to be full of...// Escolha ser cheio de...

Can you choose to be   Joyful? (Full of joy) Peaceful? (full of peace) Patient? (full of patience) Kind? (full of kindness) Good? (full of goodness) Faithful? (full of faith) Gentle? (full of gentleness) Generous? (full of generosity) Self-controlled? (totally self-controlled) Can you choose to be like that all the time? To everyone?   What other religion would promise you that? I am not saying that all Christians are like that all the time. No, we are not, unfortunately. However, we are prone to be more successful than others, do you know why?  When Jesus was lifted to the heavens after his resurrection, he promised that a few days later, His Spirit would come to live in us. The Holy Spirit is our helper. When we live a godly life, a prayer life, and are filled with the Holy Spirit, those are the characteristics that should be seen in us—if not all of them, at least most of them.  Would you like to live like that? To treat people like that? Well, I suppose so. ...
