Come to the light // Venha para luz

I look around today and see how much hate there is, especially toward Christians. Sometimes I wonder what is so bad about being a Christian to deserve that much hate. That much despise.

There are several types of persecution against Christians. There are religious people, atheist people, and political people.. maybe in every category of people, there are those who hate Christians.

Jesus warned the disciples about the persecution. I understand if you don’t feel like being a Christian because you want to avoid all the trouble. It is comprehensible. Jesus said, “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the would love you as its own, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you”. (John 15:18-19)

I don’t get it. Is it because of the truth? A true Christian doesn’t know or choose not to lie. We will tell the truth, is that it? Because we won’t lie to make anyone happy or “protect” anyone with a lie. Or is it because we are always trying to do the right thing no matter what happens?

Some people call Christians of hypocrites. There are some. Maybe there are plenty of us. Or is it just an excuse to hate?

Being a follower of Jesus is not glamorous, it doesn’t make anyone rich, or famous (some people get that, but because it was God’s plan, and not because it is the natural consequence).

Jesus said they would hate us because we are light, and the world likes darkness. These haters like doing things in obscurity. Sin is something that nobody should know. It is better to be kept hidden, it is no one's own business. But Christians had this habit of making everything clear. Exposing everything.  Confessing. Repenting. Shaming people. But they don’t understand that when we bring everything to the light, all is made better. The burden is gone. The shame is gone. We see the love of God.  It is all out in the open. Nothing else is hidden. But the world won’t understand this need.

It is told that sin doesn’t exist. But I tell you, it does. And it hurts. It takes out the inner peace. From the outside sin looks fine. Everybody is doing it. How is everybody dealing with it? Anxieties, drugs (prescribes and non-prescribed), fights, drunkenness, sexual immorality (oh no… there is no such a thing as sexual immorality, is there? Yes, there is and you know it, you just don’t want to believe because once you do, you will have to give up on that). Think about it. If it were something so cool and not sinful, why do you have to do it in darkness, hidden, why do you feel so ashamed? Why can’t everybody enjoy it? Have you thought about the consequences?)

Every sin has several degrees of consequences. And you know it, you may not want to believe that it is the consequences of your own bad choices that you are living now, but deep down you know what you have done.

I understand that confessing our sins isn’t an easy job. But you should be relieved that you still have this opportunity.

Remember, He knew it, that is why He went to the cross. There is no forgiving of sins without the shedding of blood. Not yours but Christ’s.

You don’t need to keep that hate inside. Because Jesus loves you also even with all your sins. Don’t you want to love Him too? He is ready and waiting for you. He knows you need Him, you just need to acknowledge that you need Him.

You see, there will be persecution until the end. Because there will always be someone unwilling to give in to the Truth. There will always be someone willing to stay in the darkness. They don’t know Jesus, or the Father and they will choose to be in the dark. The light hurts our eyes, but we can do everything else better because we see. We have clarity. You don’t need to stay in the darkness, only if you want to. Nobody is going to grab your arm against your will and pull you out of your darkness. Unless you ask for it. You may be so hurt and weak that you have no strength on your own to get up and come to the light. But you need to choose and ask for help. He himself will come to help you out and take you out of that place.

Expondo tudo. Confessando. Arrependendo. Envergonhando as pessoas. A vergonha acabou. Vemos o amor de Deus. Está tudo em aberto. Nada mais está escondido. Mas o mundo não entenderá essa necessidade.

Dizem que o pecado não existe. Mas eu te digo, ele existe. E machuca. Tira a paz interior.

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe...

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost...

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the ...
