They abandoned Him // Eles O abandonaram

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

I was listening to Tim Mackie’s podcast about Matthew 26. He was talking about how big a failure we all are. It doesn’t matter what we say that we will do, because in the end, we will fail, if we start counting on ourselves, our strength, or counting on other people to get anywhere. Jesus in the garden for one moment didn’t want to go through with the plan; he knew what was coming for him. He freaked out. Who wouldn’t? Were the disciples paying attention to what was going on with Jesus at that moment? No, they weren’t. They were tired and their eyes were heavy, they couldn’t stay up.

So yeah, we get tired and we fail. Did that cause Jesus to give up on them? Jesus knew who would betray him, and he knew that all of them would run away when the persecution arrived. Did Jesus get angry at them? No, he didn’t.

What did Jesus emphasize the most? That we love one another as He loved us, or at least as we love ourselves. The self-preservation kind of love is the love that we must have for one another.

Christian or not, we all know this. We all know that it is the most difficult thing ever to be done. Still, this is the commandment.

When we are able to do that a little bit, people notice who we are.

Let me ask you something, because I genuinely don’t know. Did Mohamed ever say anything like it to his followers? For what I can see, he might have said exactly the opposite. Just kill those who disagree with you or whatever. They say that Islam is a religion of love. Really? And why do they want to annihilate the Jews and then the Christians? Did Mohamed die for anybody? I don’t know, maybe I am just poking a wasp-thing.

What I know is that Jesus gave us an example. He won the war by losing it. How? By showing that his enemies weren’t any of those human beings over there nailing him to the cross. His enemy was death. So he had to die and rise to life.  By this way He could show that nor even death can hold him down. Jesus paid with his life, human blood by human blood, the sins of the world. God is holy. God is also just. He will bring the ultimate judgment on earth for all the evil that humans have been doing to his creation.

While we still have time, let’s choose Jesus and not to be part of the last judgment that God will bring upon everyone who has rejected Him. If you reject Jesus, you are also rejecting the One who sent Him.

One of the ways that we show that we love Jesus is by loving one another. Once we accept that Jesus has died for us, for me and for you, He comes to live in us. To strengthen us and make this commandment feasible.

Despite all our shortcomings, Jesus still loves us. They won’t nullify Jesus' sacrifice for us.

Invite Jesus into your life. Humble yourself before Him, repent for rejecting Him for so long.

Come and see how joyful it is to be part of Jesus’ kingdom.

The churches exist to help us keep going. The churches are made by humans filled with flaws and sins, but they should be filled also with love and forgiveness and acceptance. The churches should not be complicit in sin.

Last Sunday, the pastor said, “Look at someone here and say: I see Jesus”. Look to your fellow neighbor, and try to see Jesus in Him. Not because he is perfect, but because Jesus lives in Him; or because you love Jesus, so you should love that person too. And because Jesus loves that person, so should I. Regardless of who it is.

We can’t find a good reason to love someone. We must love one another because Jesus loves that person too, and that person is no different from me. If I know that Jesus loves me, I should also know that Jesus loves that person too, with the same intensity that He loves me.

I need to empty myself of all my pride and hypocrisy and see that I am no better than anyone else. That person made mistakes and will keep on making mistakes all of their lives, and so will I. And I want people to forgive me when I make them; so I must forgive people when they do. This is the Christian principle.

The Bible is full of stories of human failures, and only one is perfect. God is perfect. His love and mercy endure forever. The disciples all fled the scene; therefore, they all abandoned Jesus. Jesus still went through with the plan. He didn’t give up, because they all betrayed him.

We fail and we will keep failing. But that is not important. The important thing is God never fails us. He loves us until the end.

Ele venceu a guerra perdendo-a.

Choose to be full of...// Escolha ser cheio de...

Can you choose to be   Joyful? (Full of joy) Peaceful? (full of peace) Patient? (full of patience) Kind? (full of kindness) Good? (full of goodness) Faithful? (full of faith) Gentle? (full of gentleness) Generous? (full of generosity) Self-controlled? (totally self-controlled) Can you choose to be like that all the time? To everyone?   What other religion would promise you that? I am not saying that all Christians are like that all the time. No, we are not, unfortunately. However, we are prone to be more successful than others, do you know why?  When Jesus was lifted to the heavens after his resurrection, he promised that a few days later, His Spirit would come to live in us. The Holy Spirit is our helper. When we live a godly life, a prayer life, and are filled with the Holy Spirit, those are the characteristics that should be seen in us—if not all of them, at least most of them.  Would you like to live like that? To treat people like that? Well, I suppose so. ...

My take on these stories // Minha opinião nessas histórias

The 2 Samuel 9 and 10 are about David’s kindness toward others. One person received his kindness humbly, knowing that wasn’t expected from that king in particular. Saul was the first king of Israel and did not obey the word of the LORD. Therefore, the kingdom was taken away from him and his lineage. God announced to Saul that he was going to give the kingdom to someone else. Being David. Because David was not a descendant of Saul, once he started reigning, it was expected that the new king, non-descendant of the former, would kill all the former king’s descendants so no one would stand in the line of succession. Bu David did not do that. Instead, he chose to show kindness toward the last person from Saul’s house.  Saul’s grandson accepted David’s kindness. And we have a beautiful story about grace.  Chapter 10, however, tells a different story. A story of a man who didn’t accept David’s kindness because that was what he was. A person who suspected everyone around him. He ...

Arise and eat // Levante e coma

He came to a broom bush, sat under it, and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough,  Lord ,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”   5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once, an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”   6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the  Lord  came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”   8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19: 4-8) How many times have you wished that this life were over? I have wished that many times. Sometimes it is just too painful, or sad, or hopeless, isn’t it? You know, Elijah...
