I knew a word
in Portuguese that I didn’t know in English, and I had never looked it up
before. It turned out to be “heartbreak”. I thought we could only use this
word in a romantic sense. I realized that is not so. A mother can be
heartbroken because her son really disappointed her or didn’t give her due
respect or consideration. A son also can be heartbroken if his father doesn’t
show appreciation for him. Speaking of
appreciation, we all want to be appreciated by our peers, especially parents.
Most of the things we do for others, especially in a family context, we do it
expecting some degree of appreciation. When we feel ignored, we can easily
feel heartbroken. I realize
that heartbreak can sicken the mind and the body. Our brain responds
positively with good things. It can quickly restore or change the biochemical
components of the body, let’s put it this way. When something disappoints us,
our brain also responds to it, in a negative way. It will increase a set of
substances that can turn on our fight/flight mode. In a situation that we do
not want to be in, our brain will respond to that; we will be afraid,
anxious, nervous, sensitive, and very alert. The thing is, we can’t be in
this state for long. It will weaken our immune system and change many things
inside our body. This has to stop, sooner rather than later. My point is, relationships can help us to heal as much as they can kill us. Once someone
told me, “If that somebody makes you cry more than laugh, it is time to get
out of this relationship”. Jesus can
heal us all. From the inside out, but we need to go after him and ask. We
cannot keep living the same way, waiting for the miracle to happen. We must
act. The miracle might be just around the corner, but you need to get there
first. In today’s
reading, in one of the gospels, it was written that people from many places
went to Jesus to be cured. Sometimes, it is just easy to do nothing, to keep
living in the same situation. It is kind of comfortable right now. You might
say, “It hurts, but I love this person”. Let me just say this one thing: this
person is killing you from the inside out. So, stand up and get out before it
is too late for you. Some people
need to get to the bottom of the pit to look up and ask for help. Some people
are just too busy looking inside themselves that they don’t even realize they
are hurting people around them. It is good to
help others, but sometimes it is best to help yourself first. There is this
story (I don’t know if this is a true story). One man went to the roof of his
house because the floodwater was rising too fast. He started praying for a
miracle. A boat came calling him to get down from the roof and get in the
boat, the man refused to go; he was waiting for his miracle; later it came a
helicopter, dropped the stairs and asked him to climb up; he refused because
he was waiting for his miracle. Then, the night came, and he got disappointed
because he didn’t get his miracle, and now, he was trapped on the roof of his
house with no way out. He was so focused on the miracle he created in his
mind that he failed to see the miracle God sent his way in the form of help
from others. What God
wants from us or gives us will not be what we have created in our minds. God
uses people and situations to help us, and we refuse to see because it is not
the way we imagined. There are
good relationships and bad relationships. The ultimate choice is ours. You
can choose to let go, or to stay in. Be aware that some people manipulate
others with their conditions. How long
until you realize that your heartbroken relationship is killing you? Happiness is
not found in other people. My happiness is not because I have a lovely
husband. My happiness is because I have peace in my heart. My Jesus gives me
peace. I need nothing else. Can you say that with 100% certainty? Each one of
us lives a life we have chosen. Don’t go out blaming God for this or that.
Own up to your choices, your mistakes, and don’t drag people down with you,
because you are unable to see the help God sent your way, and you refused. There are
relationships where heartbreaks are just inevitable. Mothers and daughters,
sons and fathers. Go on a trip inside yourself and find the first thing that
disappointed you and made you bitter toward that person. Now you are ready to
forgive. In a
relationship, the fault is not just in one person. The fault is in both
parties involved. There isn’t just one to blame. Both are guilty. Heartbreak:
Jesus can heal once you are ready to forgive one another and let it go. Love one
another as you love yourself. How much do you love yourself? Are you treating
your relative with as much respect and love as you want to be treated with? |
no coração).
adoecer a mente e o corpo. Nosso cérebro reage positivamente a coisas boas;
enfraquece nosso sistema imunológico e altera muitas funções internas do
organismo. Isso precisa acabar o quanto antes. O ponto principal é que os relacionamentos
podem tanto nos curar quanto nos destruir. Certa vez, alguém me disse:
É algo confortável no momento.
verdadeira).
Existem relacionamentos bons e
relacionamentos ruins. A escolha final é nossa.
maravilhoso. Minha felicidade existe porque tenho paz no coração. Meu Jesus
me dá paz. "Não preciso de mais nada." Você consegue dizer isso com
100% de certeza? Cada um de nós vive a vida que
escolheu. Assuma a
