Day 7: Creation is waiting // Dia 7: A criação está esperando

Sad to think that man is the only species that destroy his own “house”. To think that just because we don’t live in the middle of a forest or in front of the sea we don’t need to care about those who do. And those who do live in those areas should also take care of the place he/she is dwelling. Many years ago, I heard a guy saying that if we cleaned the street, we would be doing the street sweeper’s job, and he used that excuse to throw away on the street his trash. I was horrified with so much ignorance and stupidity. As some people on social media are saying: “we don’t have planet B”. We won’t be living on the moon or Mars or wherever. What do you think? Would we take better care of the next planet or would we keep destroying the next one and the next one and so on? Yes, I think so too. Of course, we would keep destroying as many planets as we could find. Human beings should be ashamed of themselves. We should feel shame when we dare to look at the beautiful places God left us to take care and we have destroyed. And we have a few left, and people still don’t get it. They won’t last if we keep just doing what we have been doing for years. Do you remember what happened when the lockdowns started and last for a month or more and Nature started to recover? What does that say to us? It says that without us, Nature can thrive. We are the plague. We are the disease of the World. We and our sins.

Day Seven: Creation Is Waiting

All of creation is with us on our journey to God. We are unavoidably connected to creation, and creation is unavoidably connected to us.

Modern life means that we can separate ourselves from the natural world. We don’t spend as much time outdoors as we did in past generations, and so we are losing our understanding of it, our connection with it, and our respect for it.

The earth today has many scars caused by people who came to do nothing more than get wealthy for themselves, not caring about what they left behind. This is particularly the case in America. The miles of slag piles left by gold prospectors near Idaho City one hundred and fifty years ago is an example. Historically we call it Manifest Destiny. It was actually a spiritual attitude, believing that God had given us this nation, as Americans, to use as we pleased.

Like the Israelites, we forgot that there were conditions and responsibilities that came with dominion. It was our destiny to control the land so we killed the buffalo and the beaver, we extracted all the minerals, we did everything just because we felt we had the right. this picture of total entitlement is killing the planet today.

Paul speaks to the Romans about suffering. We all suffer, but this suffering is nothing compared to what we will receive in the Kingdom of God. We might say that the destruction of the environment is a suffering that it has to endure. If it’s on the journey with us, it has to be with us, suffering and all! We could say that it’s just one of those things and that it will all be made right in the end…

There is a lot that we don’t know. Only God knows who His children really are. It is in the future that these things will be revealed. It is in the present that we are living in. And we live in hope. An attitude of greed or entitlement shows a lack of hope as it shows that really we are living for the present and with a desire for material goods rather than spiritual ones.

Saying that we’re all waiting – us and all of creation – is kind of another way of saying that we’re all in this together. Death and decay are not the same as destruction. If we truly are waiting for the coming Kingdom, we have to really ask ourselves what relates to the natural order of things, and, ultimately, what relates to sin.

Questions for Discussion

1. Does this passage change your idea of the Kingdom of God? If so, how?

2. Is the human destruction of the environment a part of God’s plan?

3. How does time (our understanding of the past; our personal history; our plans for future generations) influence our spiritual lives

Nós somos a praga. Nós somos a doença do mundo. Nós e nossos pecados.

Dia Sete: A Criação Está Esperando

2. A destruição humana do meio ambiente é parte do plano de Deus?

3. Como o tempo (nossa compreensão do passado; nossa história pessoal; nossos planos para as gerações futuras) influencia nossa vida espiritual

I see Grace in the time of the Law // Eu vejo Graça no tempo da Lei

People frequently say that the Old Testament is the time of the law, and now we are under the Grace of God. Surprisingly, I just found out an explicit act of the Grace of God in the Old Testament. As I read chapter 9 of Deuteronomy , in which has a title Not because of Righteousness (ESV). I am stunned to see verses 4 - 6, they say: “ Do not say in your heart , after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘ It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you. 5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.6 “Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is not giving y...

No "trouble-free" card for you // Nenhum cartão "livre-de-problemas" para você

The Word of the Lord is beautiful and true. In there, you find so many poems. This is the form the Bible authors chose to communicate the Word of the LORD, and it is profound. I’ve been listening to the Bible Project podcast for more than a year now. Lately, they are covering the theme of “The Wilderness”. Now, everywhere I read in the Scripture, I see something related to it. It is amazing. I am now in the book of the prophet Isaiah, chapter 43. And guess what? It is wonderful. Just in the first few verses, you find that God is telling His people that it doesn’t matter what sort of hardship they are going through, He, the Creator, will deliver them. Actually, it is said like this: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior....

The oppressive urge to speak // A necessidade opressiva de falar

Should I keep quiet forever? Is silence that bad? Can’t I stand my own thoughts that I need to say out loud? What kind of thoughts come to my mind? Are they generally good or bad? If I choose to speak up, to whom would it benefit? If anyone ever. Let me be clear: It is better not to say a word than say words that will do more harm than good. What if it is the truth? I ask, why would you say it? How would you say it? The truth will come out eventually. You don’t need to lie or be rude. What we must do is to be kind. If I tell you the truth in a harsh way, will you accept, or will you only hear the harsh sound of my voice and ignore completely what I was trying to say? Sometimes, not even the kindest words won’t make it through because the listener isn’t listening at all. The listener doesn’t care about your opinion, doesn’t care about others. The listener just cares about himself. The listener just wants to say w...
