What is our cross? // O que é a nossa cruz?

Do you know what is your cross?

You might think your cross is the problems of life, the hardships, or even a disease. I know I thought that too. But rethinking about it, of course with the help of a book that I’ve just read, I came to agree with the Author. It is kind of selfish to think that our cross is about ourselves.

Jesus went up to the cross, even though he had done no wrong. He didn’t say, “I deserve justice!”, or “I need a fair trial”, “Wait for me outside I’m gonna get you”. Or “I’m gonna make sulfur rain over all of you”. No. He went in silence. He accepted the unfairness of those human beings, why? Because he loved it. “God so loved the world…”

He died for us. He didn’t need to. He could do differently if He wanted. But He didn’t.

One question for you: What is the most thing Jesus repeated to the disciples and in all New Testament? I’m gonna answer that for ya. “Love your neighbor”, isn’ it? Why? Because if we want to follow His commands we need to love our neighbors a lot like we love ourselves. Why? Because we are going to be treated with unfairness, disrespect, slanders, insults. If we don’t have enough love in us, we ain’t able to be silent and carry our cross.

So, what is our cross?

Our cross, and I am going to quote: “The true cross of Jesus calls you to lose what you may never regain to give what others may never deserve. And perhaps – but only perhaps – others will see the love of God demonstrated through your grace”. I loved this phrase. Because we didn’t deserve His sacrifice, but He did it anyway. He died for those who accused falsely Him too because He loved indiscriminately.

You can say that God doesn’t love you, or you are a terrible sinner. I tell you, He doesn’t care what you did, He died for your sins too. He doesn’t care if you didn’t believe in Him, He still loves you. There is nothing in this world that can separate you from His love. I mean, there is nothing you can do that will make God love you less. He loved those guys who put Him on the cross. You may have done the same, and I tell you, His love is still the same. He cannot change. He is eternal. And "God so loved the world that He gave his own and only Son, that WHOEVER believes in him shall not perish but have the eternal life". (John 3:16). "WHOEVER" includes you, me, the traitor, the adulterer, the robber, the covetous; "WHOEVER" doesn’t have a pattern, a name, a color, a nationality, or a perfect life. He came for all of us. He died for all of us.

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24). Suddenly, this verse makes a lot more sense. Deny oneself – we don’t get to ask for justice, or fight back every fight we get into or indulge in any desire of our own flesh. We have to love only. Remember what Paul said, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12). That is why we cannot engage in a fight with people, we have to love them. This is the way we fight back against our true enemy, the one who wants to destroy us.

As the author of the book (Doug Newton) “The cross is accepting unfairness. It’s receiving poor treatment. It’s not fighting back”, “But we face choices every day to give up something we may never regain (time, money, credit, reputation, etc) to provide something others may never deserve (grace, forgiveness, a second chance). That is the cross”.

You can put yourself there too, you one day were “the others” of that sentence. Jesus gave up His life so we could have eternal life.

Jesus calls us to do the same – take up your cross and up to the Calvary. He suffered; we will suffer too. He rose from the dead, we will raise too. He has eternal life, we will have that too. This life is too short to jeopardize the next one.

Então, qual é a nossa cruz?

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the Word of God to be more acceptable and palatab

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost you
