What matters most to God? // O que é mais importante para Deus?

The book of the prophet Haggai tells something interesting that I hadn't noticed before. The main message here is: first, you repent, then work in God’s work. Otherwise, your work won’t be accepted by God.

What matters most to God?

Our heart.

What does that mean?

It means that He sees even deeper than we see what is going on within ourselves—our thoughts and intentions. We can’t bargain with God. He won’t fall for it. We cannot have both ways with God.

In the book of the Prophet Haggai, God calls out to his people that they were more interested in their business than God’s. Later on, God called out on them again, saying, ‘Right, you guys are working in my business now, but your hearts are not in it; you must repent before doing my work'.

God cannot accept anything from us if we are harboring something God disagrees with.

It doesn’t matter if you see yourself as a good person because everything you do is lawful, yet your heart is full of greed, envy, hate, prejudice, contempt, complaints, etc.

We are so lucky because we have the Holy Spirit to help us get rid of all that and so much more. The people back then, B.C. times, didn’t have Jesus; therefore, there was no Holy Spirit. Pleasing God back then was extremely hard. The law given to them was a heavy burden.

I am not saying that we disregard the law altogether. We don’t.

But with the Holy Spirit's help, we can now get it right; Jesus' teachings clarified the law for us.

In the sermon on the Mount, Jesus goes commandment by commandment, explaining what God meant by that. During his ministry, Jesus made other points of the law that the Jews became obsessed with also clearer. In the end, the summary is: whatever is in your heart, it is what will come out from you (from your mouth, your actions).

Jesus came to preach freedom and love. If people see Christianity as something other than that, they don’t understand a thing about it.

If you think that going to church is a prison, how about you experiment with going to a casino and getting addicted to gambling; how about that for freedom?

Let’s see another example. Some people depend on people’s approval for every little thing that they do; they must post it on social media. How about that for freedom? Oh.. a good one. “I can do whatever I want with my body,” and yet, by the end of the day, you are still empty and have no purpose.

I can go on and on with plenty of examples of what people mistake for freedom.

Freedom is when you have peace and joy, even in the middle of a turbulent season of life. Freedom is not being addicted to anything. Freedom is to love without expecting anything in return. Freedom is attending church and worshiping God because you understand that the hole in your heart will only be filled with Jesus.

Life without Jesus is purposeless, empty, and disappointing at every turn.

Since the beginning, God had only wanted a sincere and repented heart. God wants to fill our hearts with love and peace and make us feel satisfied with the life he gave us to live.

You don’t need to put your affairs in order to get close to God; you only need to repent and accept Jesus as your Savior. Then, He will do the cleaning and organizing.

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the Word of God to be more acceptable and palatab

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost you
