Not mine but, Your will be done // Não meu desejo mas, Seu desejo seja feito

Have you heard about Adam and Eve? I believe so. If you have, you also know that they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. I bet you also realized that they chose to do so. They decided to eat from that tree together. They decided to go against the will of God. They decided that they deserved to know what good and evil are from their perspective. They doubted God. They didn’t trust God enough to obey his command.

Cain, the firstborn of Adam and Eve, when they were outside the garden of Eden. He was tempted with anger. Anger grew inside of him, a struggle many of us can relate to. God warned him that he should rule over that because if he gave in, he knew something not good, therefore evil, would happen.

Abraham and Sara also decided that God was delayed to fulfill His own promise and abused a foreigner to go on with their own plan in order to fulfill God’s promise. (Crazy much?) They thought they were helping God, but in reality, they were questioning His timing and His ability to fulfill His own promises.

What is common among these stories, and so many others, in the Bible? They all have decided to define good and evil apart from God’s perspective. They thought they were doing the right thing. They were just trying to help God (as if He needed any help).

The consequences of those choices are all written in the Bible. The Bible authors didn’t shy away from the bad results that come from bad decisions. There are so many Bible stories that we can only think one thing: Our choices should be filtered by God’s sifter. Our decisions always seem to go in the other direction, which isn’t God’s. Why is that?

When we question God’s plans, we tread on dangerous ground. His plans may seem daunting or even impossible to us (maybe they are impossible to us, but not to God), but what do we lack when we dare to question His divine wisdom?

Rest assured, God is fully aware of the paths we choose. Often, we may find ourselves on the longer, more tempting, or seemingly happier roads. But His love for us is unyielding, and He will always guide us back to His plan if only we surrender to Him, if only we repent and turn to His directions.

How often are we in a position that we even dare to say: “God, pass this cup from me”? Have you reflected enough to realize that there is nothing which could measure up to Christ’s suffering? If only we take our time to reflect in Jesus’ suffering and compare with what we are going through, will we be humble enough just to pray “Lord, help me endure this one”.

So, If you surrender to Him, you will have the end that He planned all along. However, if you never surrender, remember it was your choice that took you there.

God will always give you choices and opportunities.

Jesus once said, “Look at the bird of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.” Don't be so fooled to believe that the bird will die if you set it free. Therefore, you have to keep it in the cage. But Jesus continues, “Are you not of more value than they?” (Matthew 6:28)

The enemy is a liar. He fooled Eve from the start. He has been fooling people since then.

Doubts, anxieties, fear, and frustration are all weapons of the devil to make you decide against God.

God won’t keep you in a cage. The devil will. Do you know where you are trapped? Is it drugs, medicines, philosophies, lifestyle, gambling, fornication, pornography, adultery, or stealing, working? I don’t know. I bet you do.

“Perhaps the sin you are fighting is that of becoming angry and bitter against God for allowing some trial or suffering in your life.”

Deus sempre lhe dará escolhas e oportunidades.

(Mateus 6:28)

O inimigo é um mentiroso. Ele enganou Eve desde o início. Ele tem enganado as pessoas desde então.

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe...

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost...

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the ...
