Who doesn't like a good story? // Quem não gosta de uma boa história?

Some people may not like to read the Bible because of its stories. There are all kinds of stories. Love stories, war stories, adultery, violence… you name it.

We like to judge ourselves. Sometimes there are some of us who likes to think of themselves as good, beautiful, smart, wise… others not so much; there are those who look at themselves badly as weak, ugly, dumb, incompetent etc.

God doesn’t take any of that into consideration when He wants to use someone. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17), meaning that none of that needs to keep being a reality. Jesus transforms and reforms. But there is one thing that hinders the work of God the most: pride.

With pride comes all the rest. Pride makes you lie; Pride makes you trump over people; Pride is the opposite of forgiveness because if you want to forgive, you need to humble yourself and give in to the other person. Pride makes us believe that we can do it all by ourselves. Pride makes us believe that we are enough.

In the Bible we don’t only read about proud people; we also read about liars, weak people, and deceivers, we read about rivalry among brothers, envy, cowardice, lust, and greed…

The Bible shows us that we are all imperfect because of our sins; and also shows that nobody is unredeemable. God uses whoever He wants. Here are some examples:  Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the sons of Jacob, Barak, Gideon, Samson, and a bunch of Israel kings with some of these traces, others with most.

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

rothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”(1 Corinthians 1:21 – 31)

Peter was proud. He trusted in his own power of will and believed that it would become true just because he said something. Jesus said, “take it easy Pete, I know you and you will fall tonight”. Peter believed that he would NEVER deny Jesus.

We want to believe in so many things. The media wants us to think that We Can Do Whatever We Want, but not so fast with this idea.

How often have you been surprised with your response/ or lack thereof?

The Bible has so many sayings about this:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).

Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness (Psalm 37:3)

Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will do it (Psalm 37:5)

So that your trust may be in the LORD, I instruct you today--yes, you (Proverbs 22:19).

In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps (Proverbs 16:9).

Now we understand that we are not trustworthy creatures. Even though God loves us. God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful (1 Corinthians 1:27).Why? So we can learn to trust in Him, and glorify Him.

Paul was telling his story to the Corinthians and said to them that he also had been afflicted by Satan. That he prayed to God to get rid of it. But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10) Meaning God is our strength. We are weak. But He is not.

Even when we fall and make mistakes, when we think we are nothing, God sees us through another lens. If we say ‘I don’t know how to speak’ (Exodus 4:10), Then the LORD said to him, ‘Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I?” (Exodus 4:11)

There is no excuse for God. He has all the answers. Nothing is impossible to Him. He has all the solutions to your problems. He is sufficient. We are not enough. We are nothing if God didn’t make us. We are dust. We come to the world with nothing, and we leave this world with nothing. Our souls belong to the LORD.

All those crazy stories in the Bible exist so we can relate, so we can see that only He can accept us the way we are and make us better. All those people accomplished something because they trusted in the LORD and saw Salvation. At some point in their lives, they surrendered to God, and God was exalted in their lives, through their lives.

God shows us in every way how much He loves us. How much he sacrificed for us.

I love the Bible because it teaches me something every day. I feel better when I read it. It is my medicine—the most important one, the one I cannot fail.

Assim podemos aprender a confiar Nele e glorificá-Lo.

Somos fracos.

Todas aquelas pessoas realizaram algo porque confiaram no Senhor e viram a Salvação.

Me sinto melhor quando leio.

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the Word of God to be more acceptable and palatab

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost you

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe
