What is precious to you? // O que é precioso para você?

 

Today, the meditation was on Matthew 6:19-21. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” What was Jesus talking about? How do you interpret this passage? What treasures am I storing up here, on the earth? What treasures am I storing up in the skies? When we read the gospel, do we notice what things are precious to Jesus? When he says a parable about reward, riches, and money (yes, Jesus talks about money), is He putting spiritual value in it? Is He condemning who is rich? No, and No. We usually consider values such as security and pleasure. And what on earth can give us that? In fact, some of the things in the Bible teach us to be wise with money. For example, “we control the money” rather than “the money controls us.” Do you see the difference? When we let money take over our lives… it is destructive and insatiable. It is never enough. It doesn’t matter if you were promoted yesterday; today, you are thinking about the next. What is worthy in Jesus’ perspective? His mission was to preach forgiveness, repentance, new life, ultimate joy, and eternal life, which are more valuable than the things we give up for His name’s sake. The ultimate worth is trusting God, becoming one with God, and knowing that God will take care of everything. Jesus values people above everything. He is more interested in our souls and their future. Love the God your Lord above everything and love one another as yourself.  Returning to the verses that we are meditating on. Money, jewels, gold, land, career, or whatever—any of these things can be stolen, lost value, outdated, and maybe rust. When you die, they stay behind. You won’t take anything with you. Whatever it is that is precious to you is not going with you to wherever you are going. It's such a shame that you have worked so hard to possess them. I don’t want to know what you have done to achieve all that.  And that is when this verse hit me. What did I do to achieve the thing that I value the most? I wasted time, lost pets, and distanced myself from my family and friends and Jesus. We all have done something because we all believed that something would bring us comfort, pleasure, security, and a good life. How many of us can really say that all the sacrifices paid off? And for how long? Are you free of worries now? I got the point. Did you? Then you ask, “so how do we store up treasures in the skies? What are these treasures that Jesus is talking about? Well, I think you already know. When we invest in people, when we love and treat them right like we would like to be treated, when we empathize with someone else’s problem and go out of our way just to help that person. When we “sell all our things” (I think he meant to detach ourselves from all the things that are precious to us) and give to the poor (to a poor soul), as Jesus said to the rich boy.  Obviously, Jesus wasn’t saying for you to become homeless yourself. But I believe that all the things Jesus preached were about people. Loving, caring, and, most importantly, believing in God and that He will provide everything we need.  The Bible says that God, who has infinite mercies and grace, will provide the care of the poor and needy (Psalm 34:6; 35:10; 82:3; 109:30-31; 113:7; 140:12, etc.) “oh poor kids,” and everything that people who reject God like saying to show that God isn’t good because of all the evil that there is on the earth right now. But that is not God’s fault. We are the ones responsible for that.  All human beings are full of evil since the beginning when they decided what was right or wrong in their own eyes. We human beings have to own that.  Jesus tells us to love and care for one another; these things are counted as value in the skies. His message is repentance (there is no one good on earth and without sin), so yeah, we all need to repent daily. Learn that Jesus paid the price on the cross (a life for a life), and God forgives our sins; be sure of it. Preach this to everyone, tell your own story of repentance, and follow Jesus.

Hoje, a meditação foi sobre Mateus 6:19-21. “Não ajunteis para vós tesouros na terra, onde a traça e a ferrugem destroem e onde os ladrões arrombam e roubam, mas ajuntai para vós tesouros no céu, onde nem a traça nem a ferrugem destroem e onde os ladrões não arrombam nem roubam. Pois onde estiver o seu tesouro, aí estará também o seu coração.” Do que Jesus estava falando? Como você interpreta essa passagem? Que tesouros estou acumulando aqui na terra? Que tesouros estou acumulando nos céus? Quando lemos o evangelho, notamos quais coisas são preciosas para Jesus? Quando ele conta uma parábola sobre recompensa, riqueza e dinheiro (sim, Jesus fala sobre dinheiro), Ele está colocando valor espiritual nisso? Ele está condenando quem é rico? Não e não. Geralmente consideramos valores como segurança e prazer. E o que na terra pode nos dar isso? Na verdade, algumas coisas na Bíblia nos ensinam a ser sábios com o dinheiro. Por exemplo, “nós controlamos o dinheiro” em vez de “o dinheiro nos controla”. Você vê a diferença? Quando deixamos o dinheiro tomar conta de nossas vidas… ele é destrutivo e insaciável. Nunca é suficiente. Não importa se você foi promovido ontem; hoje, você está pensando na próxima. O que é digno na perspectiva de Jesus? Sua missão era pregar o perdão, o arrependimento, a nova vida, a alegria suprema e a vida eterna, que são mais valiosas do que as coisas das quais renunciamos por causa do Seu nome. O valor final é confiar em Deus, tornar-se um com Deus e saber que Deus cuidará de tudo. Jesus valoriza as pessoas acima de tudo. Ele está mais interessado em nossas almas e em seu futuro. Amem o Deus, seu Senhor, acima de tudo e amem uns aos outros como a si mesmos. Voltando aos versículos sobre os quais estamos meditando. Dinheiro, joias, ouro, terras, carreira ou qualquer outra coisa – qualquer uma dessas coisas pode ser roubada, perder valor, ficar desatualizada e talvez enferrujar. Quando você morre, eles ficam para trás. Você não levará nada com você. Seja o que for que seja precioso para você, não irá com você para onde quer que você vá. É uma pena que você tenha trabalhado tanto para possuí-los. Não quero saber o que você fez para conseguir tudo isso. E foi aí que esse versículo me atingiu. O que fiz para alcançar aquilo que mais valorizo? Perdi tempo, perdi animais de estimação e me distanciei de minha família, amigos e de Jesus. Todos nós fizemos algo porque todos acreditávamos que algo nos traria conforto, prazer, segurança e uma vida boa. Quantos de nós podemos realmente dizer que todos os sacrifícios valeram a pena? E por quanto tempo? Você está livre de preocupações agora? Eu entendi. Você entendeu? Então você pergunta: “então, como armazenamos tesouros nos céus? Quais são esses tesouros de que Jesus está falando? Bem, acho que você já sabe. Quando investimos nas pessoas, quando as amamos e as tratamos bem como gostaríamos de ser tratados, quando temos empatia pelo problema de outra pessoa e fazemos de tudo para ajudar essa pessoa. Quando “vendemos todas as nossas coisas” (acho que ele quis dizer desapegar-nos de todas as coisas que nos são preciosas) e damos aos pobres (a uma alma pobre), como Jesus disse ao menino rico. Obviamente, Jesus não estava dizendo para você se tornar um sem-teto. Mas acredito que todas as coisas que Jesus pregou eram sobre pessoas. Amar, cuidar e, o mais importante, acreditar em Deus que Ele fornecerá tudo o que precisamos. A Bíblia diz que Deus, que tem infinita misericórdia e graça, cuidará dos pobres e necessitados (Salmos 34:6; 35:10; 82:3; 109:30-31; 113:7; 140:12, etc.) “Oh, pobres crianças”, e tudo o que as pessoas que rejeitam a Deus gostam de dizer para mostrar que Deus não é bom por causa de todo o mal que existe na terra neste momento.
