Did you come here to boast? // Você veio aqui para "se achar" o tal?

You know, all the social media that we have currently, do you think does it help to build up a character? People exposing themselves, comparing themselves… they want to show the world how happy they are, or how they know how to live their lives or how successful they are. Or she loves to put herself out on the shelf, to be appreciated by her beauty, her body, her house, her success. Are they really happy? Are they really interested in sharing a good thing, or just to expose and cause jealousy in others? Have you thought about that? Is that how you want to build up a character? The world lately is all about competitiveness. We see a lot of that in the workplace. Any workplace, people love to receive commendations, applauses, pat in the back. People love to boast about their accomplishments, what they bought, what they earn, places they’ve been, in the accomplishments of their children, in their talents, eloquence, or science, or gaining knowledge; their abilit...

Let's talk about our responses // Vamos falar sobre nossas respostas

Garoto enxaqueca - (quadro 1) O que possuiu você para que você pudesse ter feito algo tão estúpido e imbecil? (quadro 2) O diabo me fez fazer isso. “...and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools” ( Ecclesiastes 7:8b – 9 ). Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you. Your heart knows that many times you yourself have cursed others” ( 7: 21 – 22 )”. What does an angry personality tell you about? If not yourself, you have met someone who is easily angry, or hot-tempered. The bible has a lot to say about this subject. Anger. In fact, it admonishes us all the time to refrain from anger. Have you ever decided something when you were angry? Was it a wise decision? I doubt. At some point in time, we have all made bad decision because we were angry. You can say to me… hey, there are times we cannot feel angry abou...

Can I have your word? // Posso confiar na sua palavra?

Trustworthy - Fidedigno Everyone who has a profession, during graduation, make an oath, a vow. Your career is on the line if you ever break the oath. We all understand that. In life we are required to be a person of our words, meaning that if you say something, you better be sure that you’ll be able to make that true. It has to be true. Otherwise, your word will worth nothing. You will be discredited. People will take more time to trust in you. Nobody wants that, right? You are right. Not even God. It is kind of easy not to break your profession’s oath. But that is the only oath or vow that we make during our life. Is it? I didn’t think so. When we make that oath, we have a bunch of people looking at us, expecting us to be good, wonderful professionals. We want to honor that. However, we see everywhere, all the time people making less of the vows made to God. It is written: “when you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasur...

It's all vanity // Tudo é vaidade

You know, I was never the kind of girl who dreamt about being rich. I dreamt about being successful, but not famous. I’ve always appreciated a good silence and tranquility; never liked agitation or being around too many people. I feel fine where I am in life today. What I have planned for my life I got it. I didn’t really plan what I would do after Ph.D. Maybe I thought that I would go crazy working; thanks be to God who knew me better, I am alright, where He chose me to be. There are too many people in the world who dream about being rich and famous. They think money can buy happiness. But they don’t know what happiness means. Do you? Money can buy a great deal of things. Maybe happiness isn’t a thing, it can’t be bought, or earned. Happiness is something that you find within yourself. Happiness is peace, joy, contentment. You can’t find happiness anywhere but within yourself, when you have Christ. Jesus said, ‘ Peace I leave with you; my peace...

Desires of the flesh // Desejos da carne

Luxúria, vergonha, egoísmo, raiva, inveja, culpa What are the desires of your flesh that corrupt your heart? To go shopping and buy whatever you want without ever be worried about the credit card limit or to eat whatever without worries of putting on some weight? What are those things that make you lose control? I mean those particularities that make you cry like an infant, or have anger outbursts like a toddler? You say you are ok, that you are righteous, that you obey the commandments; but how shallow you are acknowledging the commandments to make your own conscience lighter? Have you coveted last week? Did you think lustfully about a person that wasn’t your spouse? Did you feel angry enough to wish that person lose his job or something bad happened so you would not see the person soon? Do you say to yourself “I forgive but I can’t forget” often? How often do you lose your self-control? What makes you lose it? Have you prayed about it? How bad do you ...

Invisible Illness, but real // Doenças invisíveis, mas reais

Algumas deficiências aparecem assim ou assim. Mas existem muitas que são invisíveis, e parecem assim. About 10% of Americans have a medical condition which could be considered an invisible disability. 96% of people with chronic medical conditions live with a condition that is invisible. These people do not use a cane or any assistive device and act as if they didn't have a medical condition. About 25% of them have some type of activity limitation, ranging from mild to severe; the remaining 75% are not disabled by their chronic conditions. Although the disability creates a challenge for the person who has it, the reality of the disability can be difficult for others to recognize or acknowledge. Others may not understand the cause of the problem if they cannot see evidence of it in a visible way. ( link ) An invisible illness is an umbrella term for any medical condition that isn’t easily visible to others. This includes chronic physical conditions such as ...
