You know, all the social media that we have currently, do you think
does it help to build up a character? People exposing themselves, comparing themselves… they want to show the world how happy they are, or how they know how to live their lives or how successful they are. Or she loves to put herself out on the shelf, to be appreciated by her beauty, her body, her house, her success. Are they really happy? Are they really interested in sharing a good thing, or just to expose and cause jealousy in others? Have you thought about that? Is that how you want to build up a character?
The world lately is all about competitiveness. We see a lot of that
in the workplace. Any workplace, people love to receive commendations,
applauses, pat in the back. People love to boast about their accomplishments,
what they bought, what they earn, places they’ve been, in the accomplishments
of their children, in their talents, eloquence, or science, or gaining
knowledge; their abilities and so on;
Now I ask, and what for? Ego satisfaction, only; “There is nothing so worthless that it does not constitute a subject of glorying, provided it be ours. If it belongs to others it may be valueless” (Barne’s notes).
“Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those
who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one
another and compare themselves with one another they are without
understanding… Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. For it is not the
one who commends himself who is approved, but the one who the Lord commends”.
2 Corinthians 10:12, 17 -18.
From Matthew Henry Commentary, he said about 2 Corinthians 10:12-18
"If we would compare ourselves with others who excel us, this would be a good method to keep us humble. The apostle fixes a good rule for his conduct; namely, not to boast of things without his measure, which was the measure God had distributed to him. There is not a more fruitful source of error than to judge of persons and opinions by our own prejudices. How common is it for persons to judge of their own religious character, by the opinions and maxims of the world around them! But how different is the rule of God's word! And of all flattery, self-flattery is the worst. Therefore, instead of praising ourselves, we should strive to approve ourselves to God. In a word,
let us glory in the Lord our salvation, and in all other things only as evidence of his love or means of promoting his glory. Instead of praising
ourselves, or seeking the praise of men, let us desire that honor which
cometh from God only." (LINK)
From Barne's note on the bible says, "Let him glory in the
Lord - In this serious and weighty admonition, Paul designs, doubtless, to express the manner in which he was accustomed to glory, and to furnish an admonition to the Corinthians. In the previous part of the chapter, there had been some severe irony. He closes the chapter with the utmost seriousness and solemnity of manner, in order to show on his part that he was not disposed to glory in his own attainments and to admonish them not to boast of theirs. If they had anything valuable, they should regard the Lord as the author of it.
In this admonition, it is probable that Paul had in his eye the passage in
Jeremiah 9:23-24; though he has not expressly quoted it. "Let not the
wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might,
let not the rich man glory in his riches; but let him that gloried glory in
this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord which exercise
loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth." The
sentiment is a favorite one with Paul, as it should be with all Christians;
If we glory it should be in the Lord. We should ascribe our talents, wealth,
health, strength, and salvation to him. We should rejoice:
(1) That we have such a Lord, so glorious, so full of mercy, so
powerful, so worthy of confidence and love. (2) We should rejoice in our
endowments and possessions as his gift. We should rejoice that we may come
and lay everything at his feet, and whatever may be our rank, or talents, or
learning, we should rejoice that we may come with the humblest child of
poverty, and sorrow, and want, and say, "Not unto us, not unto us, but
unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy and for thy truth's sake;" Psalm

I am sorry that I copied those commentaries, but I thought they were
valuable. They expressed better my thoughts about this passage in 2
Corinthians 10.
This world is full of pride, where people think that it is a good
thing. The only pride I have is that I have found in Jesus everything I need,
and in Him, I am becoming a better person every day. My earthly accomplishments didn’t take me anywhere near God, on the contrary, they took me away from God. This life here is like a smoke, it will fly away so fast compared to the eternal He wants me to have. He has supplied me with everything I need. All I am today I am because He guided me through until here. He is still guiding me to heaven. You may not believe me, but I am at peace, completely peace. Every day I trust my life, my hours to Him. That’s why I am at total peace.

conhecimento, suas habilidades e assim por diante; Agora eu pergunto, e para
quê? Satisfação do ego, apenas; “Não há nada tão inútil que não constitua um
assunto de glória, desde que seja nosso. Se pertencer a outros, pode não ter
valor” (anotações de Barne traduzida).
“Não que ouse nos
classificar ou comparar com alguns daqueles que estão se elogiando. Mas
quando eles se medem um ao outro e se comparam um com o outro, ficam sem
entender ... Que aquele que se vangloria, se glorie no Senhor. Pois não é
quem se recomenda que é aprovado, mas a quem o Senhor recomenda ”. 2 Coríntios 10:12, 17-18.

Bíblia diz: "Glorifique-se no Senhor - nesta séria e pesada
advertência, Paulo pretende, sem dúvida, expressar a maneira pela qual ele
estava acostumado à glória e fornecer uma advertência aos coríntios. Na parte
anterior do capítulo, houve uma ironia severa: ele encerra o capítulo com a
máxima seriedade e solenidade, a fim de mostrar por sua parte que não estava
disposto a se gloriar em suas próprias realizações e adverti-las a não Se
eles tivessem algo valioso, deveriam considerar o Senhor como seu autor.
Nesta advertência, é provável que Paulo tivesse nos olhos a passagem em

Lamento ter copiado
esses comentários, mas achei que eles eram valiosos. Eles expressaram melhor
meus pensamentos sobre essa passagem em 2 Coríntios 10.
Este mundo está
cheio de orgulho, onde as pessoas pensam que é uma coisa boa. O único orgulho
que tenho é que encontrei em Jesus tudo o que preciso e, nele, sou uma pessoa
cada vez melhor todos os dias. Minhas realizações terrenas não me levaram para
perto de Deus, pelo contrário, eles me levaram para longe de Deus. Essa vida
aqui é como uma fumaça que voará tão rápido em comparação com a eterna que
Ele quer que eu tenha. Ele me forneceu tudo o que preciso. Tudo o que sou
hoje sou porque Ele me guiou até aqui. Ele ainda está me guiando para o céu.
Você pode não acreditar em mim, mas estou em paz, completamente em paz. Todos
os dias confio a minha vida, as minhas horas a Ele. É por isso que estou em
paz total.
