Desires of the flesh // Desejos da carne

Luxúria, vergonha, egoísmo, raiva, inveja, culpa

What are the desires of your flesh that corrupt your heart? To go shopping and buy whatever you want without ever be worried about the credit card limit or to eat whatever without worries of putting on some weight? What are those things that make you lose control? I mean those particularities that make you cry like an infant, or have anger outbursts like a toddler?

You say you are ok, that you are righteous, that you obey the commandments; but how shallow you are acknowledging the commandments to make your own conscience lighter? Have you coveted last week? Did you think lustfully about a person that wasn’t your spouse? Did you feel angry enough to wish that person lose his job or something bad happened so you would not see the person soon? Do you say to yourself “I forgive but I can’t forget” often?

How often do you lose your self-control? What makes you lose it? Have you prayed about it? How bad do you want to control yourself? Ask and it will be given to you (Matthew 7:7 – 11); Jesus was talking about the commandments on the Sermon on the mount; if you want to obey and be truly righteous, you should consider what it is that you want. Jesus wasn’t talking about material things, He was talking about spiritual things; things about your character, inside your heart; so, you must truly want it. And make an effort for it. Remember, God already came to earth to teach us how to do it. He won’t do it again. Everything is your choice. Jesus is right here waiting for you to call him for help. He is ready to give the strength that you need to overcome your flesh’s desires.

You might have been born this way, but you don’t need to keep giving the same excuse over and over again; what excuse? “I am this way. I can’t change that. That’s the way God made me.” Indeed, it is.  The only part that isn’t true is that you can’t change. Yes, you can. Jesus is telling you that. Do you remember Jesus’ disciples? How were they? Were all perfect? Not at all. Each one had a serious flaw. Even though they kept going with Jesus. It is written “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Right? This is true to any point you want to make.

Are you in Christ?  Do you want to be? Acknowledge your flaws, confess them to Jesus. Have a change of heart about those things. He will strengthen you to be a new creation. I consider myself a new creation. I have changed completely; so many things I left behind, things that I wouldn’t dream living without. Here I am, a new creature, new heart, new mind. I have another example – my husband, we have changed so much in Christ. He is also a transformed man. We still have a long way to go; but with Christ by our side, we will accomplish it.

I don’t care what it is. The only one who you should be talking to is Jesus. Look inside of you, search those “little flaws” that you would like so much they didn’t exist in you; because they are so part of you, and you don’t like them. Yes, Jesus can change that. I can’t, and you know you by yourself can’t either. Why not give it a try? Do you believe that He is able? Say that to Him. Right there where you are. Tell him what you want to get rid of. Persist and trust. Keep going in trying. Every step in the right direction is an advance. Just keep going, you will fall sometimes; He will pick you up again and again, as many times as you need.

Just trust in Him.

“Eu sou assim.

Eu me considero uma nova criação.

Persista e confie. Continue tentando.

Apenas confie nEle.

My take on these stories // Minha opinião nessas histórias

The 2 Samuel 9 and 10 are about David’s kindness toward others. One person received his kindness humbly, knowing that wasn’t expected from that king in particular. Saul was the first king of Israel and did not obey the word of the LORD. Therefore, the kingdom was taken away from him and his lineage. God announced to Saul that he was going to give the kingdom to someone else. Being David. Because David was not a descendant of Saul, once he started reigning, it was expected that the new king, non-descendant of the former, would kill all the former king’s descendants so no one would stand in the line of succession. Bu David did not do that. Instead, he chose to show kindness toward the last person from Saul’s house.  Saul’s grandson accepted David’s kindness. And we have a beautiful story about grace.  Chapter 10, however, tells a different story. A story of a man who didn’t accept David’s kindness because that was what he was. A person who suspected everyone around him. He ...

Arise and eat // Levante e coma

He came to a broom bush, sat under it, and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough,  Lord ,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”   5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once, an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”   6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the  Lord  came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”   8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19: 4-8) How many times have you wished that this life were over? I have wished that many times. Sometimes it is just too painful, or sad, or hopeless, isn’t it? You know, Elijah...

Choose to be full of...// Escolha ser cheio de...

Can you choose to be   Joyful? (Full of joy) Peaceful? (full of peace) Patient? (full of patience) Kind? (full of kindness) Good? (full of goodness) Faithful? (full of faith) Gentle? (full of gentleness) Generous? (full of generosity) Self-controlled? (totally self-controlled) Can you choose to be like that all the time? To everyone?   What other religion would promise you that? I am not saying that all Christians are like that all the time. No, we are not, unfortunately. However, we are prone to be more successful than others, do you know why?  When Jesus was lifted to the heavens after his resurrection, he promised that a few days later, His Spirit would come to live in us. The Holy Spirit is our helper. When we live a godly life, a prayer life, and are filled with the Holy Spirit, those are the characteristics that should be seen in us—if not all of them, at least most of them.  Would you like to live like that? To treat people like that? Well, I suppose so. ...
