It's all vanity // Tudo é vaidade

You know, I was never the kind of girl who dreamt about being rich. I dreamt about being successful, but not famous. I’ve always appreciated a good silence and tranquility; never liked agitation or being around too many people.

I feel fine where I am in life today. What I have planned for my life I got it. I didn’t really plan what I would do after Ph.D. Maybe I thought that I would go crazy working; thanks be to God who knew me better, I am alright, where He chose me to be.

There are too many people in the world who dream about being rich and famous. They think money can buy happiness. But they don’t know what happiness means. Do you? Money can buy a great deal of things. Maybe happiness isn’t a thing, it can’t be bought, or earned. Happiness is something that you find within yourself. Happiness is peace, joy, contentment. You can’t find happiness anywhere but within yourself, when you have Christ.

Jesus said, ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do, I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid’. John 14:27. Why did Jesus say that? Because HE is the Prince of Peace (For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6)

Do you know any rich person who is really in peace? Like not worried with anything? Anything? Only those who have found Jesus. Because they know the truth that when you have Jesus you can have the luxury of not being anxious or worried. Jesus can take care of you and all your affairs. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

It’s ok if you want to be rich, but first, be sure who will govern your life when you get there. What is your prime goal? What do you want to be rich for? Everything comes with consequences. Solomon, you know the son of David, the richest man on earth in his time, and also wisest. He strikes me as someone who looks for happiness everywhere, I mean, everywhere (drinks, women, riches, things) and do you know what was his conclusion? It is all vanity. It is meaningless (Read Ecclesiastes 2). Because if you don’t remember your Creator (Ecclesiastes 12), it will all be in vain. You won’t take any of the things you have accumulated in life to the next life. It is all vanity. Yeah, do you want more money? Oh yes… go ahead, be my guest. But the more you have, the more you spend, the more you will want, and the cycle will never end. Until you get to a point where nothing else is worthy but yourself, no one else is worthy, a life, a person, all will be disposable; you will lose yourself. Because you will believe that you are enough, that you can buy and have everything. Nothing can stand in your way.

That is a sad end; you will be alone with your things. We must realize soon enough what are the most precious things in life. In my point of view: Faith, Family, Friends.

Without those, what are you?

Eu me sinto bem onde estou na vida hoje.

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe...

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost...

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the ...
