Give it away // Doe

She asked him for forever
And a promise that would last
He said, babe you know I love you
But I can't commit to that
She said, love isn't love
'Till you give it away

A father lived in silence
Saw his son become a man
There was a distance felt between them
'Cause he could not understand
That love isn't love
'Till you give it away
You gotta give it away

As we live
Moving side by side
May we learn to give
Learn to sacrifice

We can entertain compassion
For a world in need of care
But the road of good intentions
Doesn't lead to anywhere
Cause love isn't love
'Till you give it away
You gotta give it away

As we live
Moving side by side
May we learn to give
Learn to sacrifice
Love is like a river
Flowing down from the giver of life
We drink from the water
And our thirst is no longer denied
You gotta give it away

As we live
Moving side by side
May we learn to give
Learn to sacrifice
There was a man who walked on water
He came to set the people free
He was the ultimate example
Of what love can truly be
'Cause his love was his life
And he gave it away
You gotta give it away

As we live
Moving side by side
May we learn to give
Learn to sacrifice

Until we don’t learn to put ourselves aside, we cannot love properly. Love without wanting something in return isn’t love. “I love you” doesn’t require some “I love you too”. You don’t love because… you just love. You choose not to love because you are afraid of getting hurt. Love bears all things. The love Jesus asked us to practice is this kind of love, for anyone.  To love, we should, no, we must put aside ourselves interests and choose to give our best to our neighbor, near or far, good or evil, fair or unfair. He didn’t say to us to pick one person, one type, one nationality, one color. He just kept saying – Love one another, as He has. He loved the Samaritan woman, the blind, the cripple.

I like Paul’s description of love.

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." (1 Corinthians 13: 1 – 7)

You can have anything in the world, you can be the best, the wisest, the most famous, but if you don’t love… that is all for nothing.
Ela pediu-lhe para sempre
E uma promessa que duraria
Ele disse, querida, você sabe que eu te amo
Mas não posso me comprometer com isso
Ela disse, amor não é amor
Até que você o dá

Um pai viveu em silêncio
Viu seu filho se tornar um homem
Havia uma distância sentida entre eles
Porque ele não conseguia entender
Esse amor não é amor
Até que você o dá
Você tem que doar

Enquanto vivemos
Movendo-se lado a lado
Podemos aprender a dar
Aprenda a sacrificar

Podemos divertir compaixão
Para um mundo que precisa de cuidados
Mas o caminho das boas intenções
Não leva a lugar nenhum
Porque o amor não é amor
Até que vocÊ o dá
Você tem que doar

Enquanto vivemos
Movendo-se lado a lado
Podemos aprender a dar
Aprenda a sacrificar
O amor é como um rio
Fluindo para baixo do doador da vida
Bebemos da água
E nossa sede não é mais negada
Você tem que doar

Enquanto vivemos
Movendo-se lado a lado
Podemos aprender a dar
Aprenda a sacrificar
Havia um homem que andava sobre a água
Ele veio para libertar as pessoas
Ele foi o melhor exemplo
Do que o amor pode realmente ser
Porque o amor dele era a vida dele
E ele entregou
Você tem que doar

Enquanto vivemos
Movendo-se lado a lado
Podemos aprender a dar
Aprenda a sacrificar

O amor suporta todas as coisas.

I see Grace in the time of the Law // Eu vejo Graça no tempo da Lei

People frequently say that the Old Testament is the time of the law, and now we are under the Grace of God. Surprisingly, I just found out an explicit act of the Grace of God in the Old Testament. As I read chapter 9 of Deuteronomy , in which has a title Not because of Righteousness (ESV). I am stunned to see verses 4 - 6, they say: “ Do not say in your heart , after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘ It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you. 5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.6 “Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is not giving y...

How to Recognize Foolishness and Pursue Wisdom A devotional reflection on humility, discernment, and the cost of our choices Opening Scripture “Do not be wise in your own eyes.” — Proverbs 3:7 Devotional Reading A fool is not the same as an insane person. In my understanding, an insane person is unable to reason clearly; things may not make sense in their mind. A fool, however, is someone who rejects counsel, ignores warnings, disobeys what is right, and acts from wrong motivations. If a person does the wrong thing for the right reason, we may still be able to understand the motive. But foolishness is different: it is often rooted in ignorance, arrogance, and a narrow mind that refuses wisdom. How can we recognize a wise person? In my understanding, a wise person does not act impulsively. This person does not need to suffer through every mistake in order to learn, because wisdom can also come from observing the experiences of ot...

Doubts and fears leave us halfway // Dúvidas e medos nos deixam na metade do caminho

Despite all the sad news I got this week, we are still standing. I am in the Book of Joshua, in my annual Bible reading. There is a part in the book that is kind of boring. It is the distribution of the cities and borders. It is tempting to skip this part, but something that I heard from the guy from the Bible Project usually says, “it is wisdom literature”, or “meditation literature”. There is something important besides geographical information in these texts. And there is. Joshua 17:18c “though the Canaanites have chariots fitted with iron and though they are strong, you can drive them out”. In the beginning of the book and several other parts too, the LORD says to Joshua, “Be strong and courageous”. What does that mean? What is this book really about? Well, the way I see it might not be the same way you see it. The way I see this book is about how we trust God and obey Him. Then we will see Him doing amazing things. It doesn’t matter how n...
