Rewards // Recompensas

The end of the year is almost here. So, many people tend to think about what they have accomplished during the year. Or children they maybe analyze if they were good kids during the year so they can get gifts from “Santa”.

In the book of Revelation, there are 7 letters written to seven churches. Sometimes I like to think if each of these churches represents a type of person. I wonder every time I read where I fit in those descriptions. We all have done good things and bad things. God knows all of them. But what caught my eyes this time was the sentence: “the one who conquers”. It got me thinking, who are the people who conquer and what do they conquer?

I spent some days thinking and reading. But I think I got it. The one who conquers the salvation. The one who has finished the race of life here on earth with Jesus. The one who believed and lived like it was said to.

In those letters, Jesus also says the qualities and the things it is held against that specific church. Meaning, we all have failed at some point in life, but the important thing that I also notice is that Jesus also calls for repentance. Once you and I have repented, we are able to conquer.
What are the rewards for those who conquered? He said: The one who conquers:

-              I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God
-              Will not be hurt by the second death (the spiritual death – the separation from God forever)
-              I will give some hidden manna and I will give him a white stone with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it
-              The one who conquers and who keeps my words until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken into pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father. I will give him the morning star.
-              Will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before the angels.
-              I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.
-              I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. (Revelation 2: 7, 11, 17, 26 – 28; 3: 5, 12, 21)

Wow! It is unimaginable all those rewards. We don’t even know what exactly all those things mean but, I don’t see anything bad. If you spend the time reading the letters you will see many sins that we usually do one way or another, but even in the end, Jesus is still calling for repentance (Rev 2: 5; 16, 21; 3: 3). He also says to persist. It won’t be easy, but we must persist so no one may seize your crown (3:11)

What do we need to do to be the one who conquers? Repent, persist and hold fast to what He said.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

As I said in another post, I’d rather sacrificed this life here and guarantee my eternity than think that there will be nothing after here and find myself mistaken. My reasons are – I am doing everything in my power and in the power of Jesus to finish well here. My passions and desires, they don’t control me. And I have no regrets for choosing Jesus. I couldn’t be better. If later you find out that there will be an eternity and you didn’t care about it, and because of that you end up in a place that you wish not; it wasn’t because you didn’t know. Better be safe than sorry, so they say.

Who has an ear, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
O fim do ano está quase chegando.

Eu me pergunto toda vez que leio onde me encaixo nessas descrições.

Passei alguns dias pensando e lendo.

Minhas paixões e desejos, eles não me controlam.

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe...

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost...

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the ...
