Jesus said to his disciples “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. Matthew 16:24”. *My thought – we all can resist a chocolate cake if we want to lose weight, why can’t we put our mind on ‘trying to be like Jesus in order to go to heaven’? The reward seems so much better. To deny a chocolate cake is to deny yourself the indulgence. The cross also teaches this. You can deny yourself things; you just don’t want to deny yourself of anything for Jesus. To leave behind a life of self-gratification, life of the moment, and life of pride for Christ. _____ xx_______xx______xx_______ You know, I come here to talk about the love of God for us. But there are many people who don’t believe in it, and I tell you what – it doesn’t matter. Jesus loves you the same. He would do all ever again if were to save just you, just to let you know how much He loves you. However, if you really love Him back, you would want to please Him; after all, He died for you too. He really wants to spend eternity with you. Again, if you really want to please Him, you would want to follow His instructions and His commandments. Some people have a hard time understanding what Christianity really means. People say, “I like Jesus; he was a good guy and a good teacher.” I tell you, that is not enough. Or “I believe in Jesus but not in God, or vice-versa”, that, won’t do either. Jesus said, “if a town rejects you (disciples), they are rejecting me, and if they are rejecting me, they are also rejecting the One who sent me”. You see,He is three in One. You can’t have only one. You can’t go half way either. If you decide to follow Christ, you must be willing to do the same thing that He did for you, for His name’s sake. In exchange for eternity with Him. Another thing about Christianity is the Cross. I am going to quote here from my Bible Study’s book. It is really good. “The first element of the way of the cross is the end of human self-sufficiency. How the world hates this aspect of the message of the cross. The world is in love with the self. Books, magazines, and talk shows extol the importance of self-fulfillment, self-gratification, and self-deification. There is even a magazine on the newsstands called Self. The self is the god of this age, and anyone who preaches the end of self-sufficiency preaches what this fallen world considers blasphemy. This age will have nothing to do with the cross or with the crucifixion of selfish desires and ambition. So, this world rejects the word of the cross.
“The message of the cross is that you and I can do nothing to save ourselves. Jesus did it all on the cross. Yet we have a hard time accepting that fact. Somehow there lingers within us the sense that we must contribute to our salvation, we must offer to God something that He can use, we must somehow make God a debtor to us. But the cross cancels out all human vanity and ego. We can add nothing to the cross or to our salvation. God owes us nothing; we owe Him everything. “ “The second element of the way of the cross is the necessity of pain, suffering, blood, and death. We do not like to hear that. It is a distasteful subject, not only because we are squeamish about such things but because it reminds us that our sin caused His pain and death. Our sin caused the death of Jesus, and that is something we do not enjoy being reminded of. Sometimes I hear Christians say, “I don’t like to sing those old hymns that talk about how vile and sinful I am. I don’t like to sing ‘Amazing Grace’ because it talks about the grace ‘that saved a wretch like me’. I don’t like to think of myself as a wretch! I like to think of myself as a good person”. The cross rebukes our foolish pride and reminds us that our sin is a horror to God, a stain on the universe – something so terrible and disgusting that it cost the Son of God incalculable suffering and torture and cruel and ghastly death. The way of the cross always causes pain, and ultimately, that brings us to the end of ourselves.
“Jesus put it this way: ‘What is highly valued among men is detestable in God’s sight’ Luke 16:15.’ What is highly valued in the world? Prestige, status, power, success, wealth, influence, fame, pleasure, comfort, security. These things, Jesus says, are an abomination in the sight of God. His standard of values is different. The cross is the most radical idea ever introduced in the world. We will never understand Christianity until we have understood the cross. Like the disciples, we have never seen Jesus until we have seen Him as one whose steps lead inexorably toward the cross.
“The last but not least element of the way of the cross is the reality of the resurrection. Isn’t it strange that the disciples heard Him speak of his death on the cross, yet they failed to hear Him say that He would rise again? O never dawned on them what that meant. They seemed to be stuck at the cross and could never look beyond it to the empty tomb. Jesus predicted His resurrection as surely He predicted His death. Yet, the disciples could never understand what He was trying to teach them. They would not understand the resurrection until after it happened. Resurrection – that is what we all truly want, what we long for and dream of. But we need a second touch in order to fully take hold of the reality of the resurrection. Jesus said, ‘come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest’ Matthew 11:28.’ There you learn who Jesus is, in the fullness of his power to give rest to a struggling, weary, laden heart. But that is not all. The second stage, ‘take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart’ Matthew 11:29. That is, like Christ, we set aside all prestige, pride, and status, seeking to live out His genuine humility and gentleness – ‘ and you will find rest for your souls,’ Matthew 11:29.” Isn’t it tiring to be worried all the time about what other people will think of you if… or, being in need to please such and such and never be recognized? When the focus of your life changes towards Jesus, all the rest disappear, they won’t matter anymore. Jesus loves you and He will help you overcome whatever situation you are in. When we live to please the only One who really understands us, the rest of the people will fade away. Their opinion won’t matter because God, the Mighty God, loves you and guides you in His direction. And you will know where you are going when you follow His steps. You are going to heaven. The aim of Christianity is to live for Christ, have peace in your heart on earth, and the certainty that Jesus loves you and you are going to see Him, sooner or later. That is all that matters. We will have pain and suffering; we are no better than anyone. We are still in this body, living on this earth like the rest of the 8 billion people. The difference between who follows Jesus and who doesn’t is the way we live. Those who believe in Jesus and in his teachings get to live in peace. Who doesn’t, doesn’t. A recompensa parece muito melhor. Negar um bolo de chocolate é negar a si mesmo a indulgência. A cruz também ensina isso. Você pode negar coisas a si mesmo; você só não quer negar nada a si mesmo por Jesus. Deixar para trás uma vida de autogratificação, a vida do momento, a vida do orgulho por Cristo. ______xx_____xx_______xx________ Sabe, venho aqui falar do amor de Deus por nós. Mas há muitas pessoas que não acreditam nisso, e vou lhe dizer uma coisa: não importa. Jesus te ama da mesma forma. Ele faria tudo de novo se salvasse apenas você, apenas para que você soubesse o quanto Ele o ama.
Contudo, se você realmente O ama, você iria querer agradá-Lo; afinal, Ele morreu por você também. Ele realmente quer passar a eternidade com você. Novamente, se você realmente deseja agradá-Lo, você deve seguir Suas instruções e Seus mandamentos. Algumas pessoas têm dificuldade em entender o que o cristianismo realmente significa.
As pessoas dizem: “Eu gosto de Jesus; ele era um cara legal e um bom professor.” Eu lhe digo, isso não é suficiente. Ou “Eu acredito em Jesus, mas não em Deus, ou vice-versa”, isso também não serve. Jesus disse: “Se uma cidade rejeita vocês (discípulos), eles estão me rejeitando, e se eles estão me rejeitando, eles também estão rejeitando Aquele que me enviou”. Veja, Ele é três em um. Você não pode ter apenas um. Você também não pode fazer so a metade. Se você decidir seguir a Cristo, você deve estar disposto a fazer a mesma coisa que Ele fez por você, por causa do Seu nome. Em troca da eternidade com Ele.
Outra coisa sobre o Cristianismo é a Cruz. Vou citar aqui o livro do meu estudo bíblico. É realmente bom.
“O primeiro elemento do caminho da cruz é o fim da auto-suficiência humana. Como o mundo odeia este aspecto da mensagem da cruz. O mundo está apaixonado por si mesmo. Livros, revistas e programas de entrevistas exaltam a importância da autorrealização, da autogratificação e da autodeificação. Existe até uma revista nas bancas chamada Self. O eu é o deus desta era, e qualquer um que pregue o fim da auto-suficiência prega o que este mundo caído considera blasfêmia. Esta era não terá nada a ver com a cruz ou com a crucificação de desejos e ambições egoístas. Então, este mundo rejeita a palavra da cruz.
“A mensagem da cruz é que você e eu não podemos fazer nada para nos salvar. Jesus fez tudo na cruz. No entanto, temos dificuldade em aceitar esse fato. De alguma forma, permanece dentro de nós a sensação de que devemos contribuir para a nossa salvação, devemos oferecer a Deus algo que Ele possa usar, devemos de alguma forma tornar Deus um devedor para nós. Mas a cruz anula toda vaidade e ego humano. Não podemos acrescentar nada à cruz ou à nossa salvação. Deus não nos deve nada; devemos tudo a Ele.”
“O segundo elemento do caminho da cruz é a necessidade de dor, sofrimento, sangue e morte. Não gostamos de ouvir isso. É um assunto desagradável, não apenas porque temos escrúpulos em relação a essas coisas, mas porque nos lembra que o nosso pecado causou Sua dor e morte. Nosso pecado causou a morte de Jesus, e isso é algo de que não gostamos de ser lembrados. Às vezes ouço cristãos dizerem: “Não gosto de cantar aqueles hinos antigos que falam sobre como sou vil e pecador. Não gosto de cantar ‘Amazing Grace’ porque fala da graça ‘que salvou um desgraçado como eu’. Não gosto de pensar que sou um desgraçado! Gosto de me considerar uma boa pessoa”. A cruz repreende o nosso orgulho tolo e lembra-nos que o nosso pecado é um horror para Deus, uma mancha no universo – algo tão terrível e repugnante que custou ao Filho de Deus sofrimento e tortura incalculáveis e uma morte cruel e medonha. O caminho da cruz sempre causa dor e, em última análise, nos leva ao fim de nós mesmos.
“Jesus colocou desta forma: ‘O que é altamente valorizado entre os homens é detestável aos olhos de Deus’ Lucas 16:15.’ O que é altamente valorizado no mundo? Prestígio, status, poder, sucesso, riqueza, influência, fama, prazer, conforto, segurança. Estas coisas, diz Jesus, são uma abominação aos olhos de Deus. Seu padrão de valores é diferente. A cruz é a ideia mais radical já introduzida no mundo. Nunca compreenderemos o Cristianismo até que tenhamos compreendido a cruz. Tal como os discípulos, nunca vimos Jesus até O vermos como alguém cujos passos conduzem inexoravelmente à cruz.
“O último mas não menos importante elemento do caminho da cruz é a realidade da ressurreição. Não é estranho que os discípulos o ouvissem falar da sua morte na cruz, mas não o ouvissem dizer que ressuscitaria? Oh, nunca lhes ocorreu o que isso significava. Eles pareciam estar presos na cruz e nunca conseguiam olhar além dela, para o túmulo vazio. Jesus previu Sua ressurreição assim como certamente previu Sua morte. No entanto, os discípulos nunca conseguiram entender o que Ele estava tentando ensinar-lhes. Eles não entenderiam a ressurreição até que ela acontecesse. Ressurreição – isso é o que todos nós realmente queremos, o que ansiamos e sonhamos. Mas precisamos de um segundo toque para compreender plenamente a realidade da ressurreição. Jesus disse: 'vinde a mim, todos vocês que estão cansados e sobrecarregados, e eu lhes darei descanso' Mateus 11:28.' Lá você aprende quem é Jesus, na plenitude de seu poder para dar descanso a uma pessoa que luta e está cansada. , coração carregado. Mas isso não é tudo. A segunda etapa, ‘tome para você meu jugo e aprenda de mim, pois sou manso e humilde de coração’ Mateus 11:29. Isto é, como Cristo, deixamos de lado todo prestígio, orgulho e status, buscando viver Sua genuína humildade e gentileza – ‘e encontrareis descanso para as vossas almas’, Mateus 11:29.”
Não é cansativo ficar o tempo todo preocupado com o que as outras pessoas vão pensar de você se… ou, precisar agradar tal e tal e nunca ser reconhecido? Quando o foco da sua vida muda para Jesus, todo o resto desaparece, não terá mais importância. Jesus ama você e Ele o ajudará a superar qualquer situação em que você se encontre. Quando vivemos para agradar ao Único que realmente nos entende, o resto das pessoas desaparecerá. A opinião delas não importará porque Deus, o Deus Poderoso, ama você e o guia em Sua direção. E você saberá para onde está indo quando seguir Seus passos. Você está indo para o céu.
O objetivo do Cristianismo é viver para Cristo, ter paz no coração na terra e a certeza de que Jesus te ama e que você O verá, mais cedo ou mais tarde. Isso é tudo que importa. Teremos dor e sofrimento; não somos melhores que ninguém. Ainda estamos neste corpo, vivendo nesta terra como o resto dos 8 bilhões de pessoas. A diferença entre quem segue Jesus e quem não segue é a maneira como vivemos. Aqueles que acreditam em Jesus e em seus ensinamentos vivem em paz. Quem não acredita, não vive em paz.
