Secrets // Segredos

We all have secrets. There secrets that sometimes we don’t even know we have them. There are those which we don’t want to remember. But I can hide them from you and you can hide them from me. But neither of us can hide them from God.

I love Psalms 139. It says that God knows our thoughts, every word that we are about to speak. He knows us better than we know ourselves. I have been saying this for quite some time now. Today, the last two verses from this Psalm caught my attention.
“Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me;
Cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about;
See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong – then guide me on the road to eternal life.” Psalm 139:23 – 24 MSG.

We might never say that to anyone. No person in the world should have this kind of access to our lives. Right? Have you ever prayed like that? Have you ever acknowledged that even without saying those words to God, it is what He does? He does that all the time. There is no hiding from God. What can you do? What can I do about that?

Once He knows everything, it is better if we ask His help, to be guided on the road to eternal life.

We certainly have done and thought and desired something wrong. Our judgmental thoughts, our fears, our bad behaviors, our bad choice of words, our lack of self-control. Every time we speak without thinking and hurt someone we love, every time we want that something bad happens to a bad person, without considering that just that thought makes us as bad as that other person. We are bad, we do bad things. We decide poorly, we can’t make it right by ourselves. If it is not for His great mercy, that is renewed every morning, we are nothing. We are wicked.

Have you ever thought that God made us different from the other animals so we can control ourselves? So we could stop and think about what we are about to do? The excuse of saying that I did without thinking, it is not a good one. We are not instinctive animals. We have a huge brain so we could control our emotions and attitudes. So we can judge our own acts before we do them. But no, we love hiding behind the excuse of saying that we did the bad thing because we had no other choice, or it was an instinct, or without thinking. These are no good excuses when God knows you so well from inside out. You can lie to me and to yourself, but you cannot lie to God.

There is no excuse for doing bad to God. You did, I did, because of we choose to do it out of selfishness or out of stupidity. We do bad things because we are bad, and we don’t want to give up to God all that bad stuff that we have inside. We are ashamed. He knows too much. Have you ever asked God “cross-examine and test me? We would certainly fail His test, as we do every single day.

Jesus rebuked his disciples saying “Stay alert; be in prayer so you don’t wander into temptation without even knowing you’re in danger. There is a part of you that is eager, ready for anything in God. But there’s another part that’s as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire.” (Matthew 26:41 – MSG), in other version say like this, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak”. (Matthew 26:41 NIV).

Why do you think He said that? Because when we are not in constant prayer, we let our mind wander around and our nature, our bad nature takes over and we sin.
Do you know why one of the fruits of the Spirit is self-control? Because He doesn’t want us to go around acting like any other animals. They don’t have self-control, they can be taught, but they are instinctive creatures, we, on the other hand, can learn self-control. He knows us. We cannot hide from Him. Surrender your thoughts and desires to Him, and let Him guide you to eternal life in a righteous path, so He can be delighted in you as He was delighted with David.

Investigue minha vida, ó Deus, descubra tudo sobre mim;
Faça uma análise cruzada e me teste, obtenha uma imagem clara do que estou fazendo;

Nós certamente fizemos, pensamos, desejamos algo errado.

Estamos envergonhados. Ele sabe demais. Você já pediu a Deus “me interrogue e me teste?

Choose to be full of...// Escolha ser cheio de...

Can you choose to be   Joyful? (Full of joy) Peaceful? (full of peace) Patient? (full of patience) Kind? (full of kindness) Good? (full of goodness) Faithful? (full of faith) Gentle? (full of gentleness) Generous? (full of generosity) Self-controlled? (totally self-controlled) Can you choose to be like that all the time? To everyone?   What other religion would promise you that? I am not saying that all Christians are like that all the time. No, we are not, unfortunately. However, we are prone to be more successful than others, do you know why?  When Jesus was lifted to the heavens after his resurrection, he promised that a few days later, His Spirit would come to live in us. The Holy Spirit is our helper. When we live a godly life, a prayer life, and are filled with the Holy Spirit, those are the characteristics that should be seen in us—if not all of them, at least most of them.  Would you like to live like that? To treat people like that? Well, I suppose so. ...

My take on these stories // Minha opinião nessas histórias

The 2 Samuel 9 and 10 are about David’s kindness toward others. One person received his kindness humbly, knowing that wasn’t expected from that king in particular. Saul was the first king of Israel and did not obey the word of the LORD. Therefore, the kingdom was taken away from him and his lineage. God announced to Saul that he was going to give the kingdom to someone else. Being David. Because David was not a descendant of Saul, once he started reigning, it was expected that the new king, non-descendant of the former, would kill all the former king’s descendants so no one would stand in the line of succession. Bu David did not do that. Instead, he chose to show kindness toward the last person from Saul’s house.  Saul’s grandson accepted David’s kindness. And we have a beautiful story about grace.  Chapter 10, however, tells a different story. A story of a man who didn’t accept David’s kindness because that was what he was. A person who suspected everyone around him. He ...

Arise and eat // Levante e coma

  He came to a broom bush, sat under it, and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough,  Lord ,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”   5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once, an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”   6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the  Lord  came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”   8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19: 4-8) How many times have you wished that this life were over? I have wished that many times. Sometimes it is just too painful, or sad, or hopeless, isn’t it? You know, Elijah...
