Do you say that you are a Christian? // Você diz que é Cristão?

Today I heard a good quote from John McArthur, it says something like this: “It costs us nothing to become a Christian, but it costs us everything to live like one”.

I like that because you can ask around and many people would say they believe in God, in Jesus. Many would also say they are baptized, but how many of them live like a true Christian?

Christians say that they are heading to the promised land, which is heaven, where Jesus is seated in His throne beside the Father. Do you think this is a smooth journey?

The moment we accept Christ in our lives, we are supposed to be His imitators. How good are you at imitating Jesus? Because, Jesus was born like a human, grew up like a human, matured like humans, and died like a human. However, He didn’t stay dead. Death could not hold Him. That is supposed to happen to all the imitators of Christ, a.k.a. Christians.

But if you are not willing to live as He did, what are the odds that you will resurrect as He did? Sufferings and hardships come to us all. Doubts, questioning, waiting times, we all pass through those. Jesus didn’t have an easy life, not by one second. Why would you?

God has revealed himself to us in the Bible. He told us His whole plan, the plan for humanity. Do you believe it? And yet, some people say they don’t know God. I say, it is your choice not to know Him. He is everywhere. He told us what exactly we are supposed to do, how we are supposed to live. He knows us so well that He is willing to forgive all our mistakes, sins, if only we believe in Him. He knew that being a human is not easy. (He came to earth as a human, so He knows). Especially because we have the same enemy. How do you suppose we resist the evil that our enemy presents to us as beautiful things? Look how Jesus did, He did, using the Word of God. Only by the Word of God, we are able to flee and resist the enemy.

If we don’t read the Word of God, we don’t know what to say, or what to do, or how to behave. Jesus’ death and resurrection won the enemy forever. The devil is defeated forever, he just doesn’t act like he is defeated; and he is doing all that he can, to make sure you believe that you are defeated too. But by his blood shed on that cross, you are a winner, and you have the same power that rose, Jesus from the dead, in your hands, by the Word of God.

Jesus left the Holy Spirit here with us, so we could be strengthened and comforted when hardships come. The Holy Spirit acts as our conscience, of course when you believe in Jesus and in the Word of God.

Anyway.

Believe in this: Jesus died for me and for you, so we can resurrect just like He did and have eternal life.

The Word of God, the Bible, is the revelation of God to us. All His plan is in it. Read it. Delight in it. Memorize it. Live it.  I can assure you, you won’t be perfect, but the Holy Spirit will help you all the way, every day.

Nobody is perfect. Only He, Jesus, was perfect. Yet, He bore our sins, the world’s sin, so we could not perish forever. He paid the ransom that was charged when the first Adam sinned. The only way to do that was by shedding His own blood. Even if we made that sacrificed that Jesus did, it would not be enough because we are not perfect. It had to be by the perfect Lamb without blemish. So, He did.

God could have easily destroyed the world and make a new one. But He loved His creation, He loved so much that He came up with a plan to show to His creation how much He loved us and choose not to destroy us just yet.

Leia-a. Aprecie-a. Memorize-a. Viva.

My take on these stories // Minha opinião nessas histórias

The 2 Samuel 9 and 10 are about David’s kindness toward others. One person received his kindness humbly, knowing that wasn’t expected from that king in particular. Saul was the first king of Israel and did not obey the word of the LORD. Therefore, the kingdom was taken away from him and his lineage. God announced to Saul that he was going to give the kingdom to someone else. Being David. Because David was not a descendant of Saul, once he started reigning, it was expected that the new king, non-descendant of the former, would kill all the former king’s descendants so no one would stand in the line of succession. Bu David did not do that. Instead, he chose to show kindness toward the last person from Saul’s house.  Saul’s grandson accepted David’s kindness. And we have a beautiful story about grace.  Chapter 10, however, tells a different story. A story of a man who didn’t accept David’s kindness because that was what he was. A person who suspected everyone around him. He ...

Arise and eat // Levante e coma

He came to a broom bush, sat under it, and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough,  Lord ,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”   5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once, an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”   6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the  Lord  came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”   8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19: 4-8) How many times have you wished that this life were over? I have wished that many times. Sometimes it is just too painful, or sad, or hopeless, isn’t it? You know, Elijah...

Why does everybody want to love and be loved?

I believe that the world's problem is the lack of love for one another. Everyone wants to love and be loved, but when they can’t, chaos is set free.   Where do you think love comes from? Even the evilest person in the world wants to be loved and gives some love.  There is something about love that we all take for granted.  We want it. Sometimes, we have it, and we cannot hold it for long, not with our efforts.  People love asking for some long-lasting marriage about the secret of it.  Isn’t it interesting? Why do you want to know? Are you willing to love for real? People lately want to love but aren’t willing to give up anything for the other person.    People are too selfish to love. Too afraid to love. People don’t want to risk anything, not even the possibility of something good.   On the other hand, Jesus gave up his throne to become one of us and show us how to love to the last point. Jesus died because of our sins. He had to, otherwise we wo...
