Do you serve? // Você serve?

Service. How do you feel about serving? What exactly do you understand what the verb “to serve” means? It means to work for someone as a servant, to prepare and offer, to provide good and services for costumer and so on. OK. Serving people is not always gratifying, or joyful. It can be messy, troubling and tiring. No reward. Sometimes it is a humiliating job.

What would you think if I tell you that Jesus came to earth as a servant? And if we are called Christian because we follow Him and we follow a servant, so we should be servants as well. Right?

Why do you call yourself Christian? Are you imitating Jesus also in this sense? Why do you want to be like Jesus if you struggle so much to serve? Jesus washed his disciples’ feet in an era there weren’t shoes to protect their feet. Would you do that? Would you give bathe your grandma? Would you do your mom’s toenails? What about a stranger’s toenails? For free!!!! Would you do that?

Let’s suppose you have a high degree, and you have no job, would you work as a waiter? Jesus said  36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ Matthew 25: 36 – 40

What do you think He meant by telling this? That we are here to serve, to take care, to love. No matter how ugly, dirty, undignified that act looks like, we are here to serve one another.

The prophet Isaiah has several passages in his book talking about a Servant. That Servant is Jesus. Jesus himself told “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant[c] is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.” John 13:14 – 16. I have told you that at that time when there weren’t shoes, wash somebody’s feet was a slave job, only the lowest did that.

Jesus came here to serve and to teach us how to do that. You say you are a Christian. Being a Christian means to be a follower, an imitator of Christ.  How are you imitating Christ lately?
Why is so important to serve? Because God loves the humble. Serving put us in the right position before God. We are here to serve one another and to serve God. When we serve one another, we are serving God. We are doing His works.

Look, we are God’s servants just like Jesus was. Not the other way around. God doesn’t serve us. God doesn’t praise us. God doesn’t work for us. We work for God. He is the Master Planner of our lives. We follow His lead.

Self-Serving life is meaningless. It won’t take you anywhere near God, only further away. Solomon the king wrote that he did everything he wanted (Ecclesiastes 2:1 - 11), he had everything he wanted and yet he said “Then I consider all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and striving after the wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 2:11).

Watch it!  What have your priorities been? You take care of yourself, of your family and loved ones, but also seek first the kingdom of God, so all of you have been doing won’t become meaningless and vanity.

The service God has put you in today, accept it, do it and learn from it. Rejoice, God is preparing you for His works.

Jesus disse que 36 eu estava nu e você me vestiu, eu estava doente e você me visitou, eu estava na prisão e você veio a mim.

Nós seguimos a liderança dele.

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe...

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost...

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the ...
