Let's talk about freedom // Vamos falar sobre liberdade

People often resist being a Christian because of the many rules. Among other things, they say it is too hard. I can’t disagree with that, it is hard, but it is also worth it. They tend to think that will lose their freedom if they become Christians. But, what do they know about freedom? Are they really free?
Let’s see:

They say they are free, but they are unable to control themselves. I think they obey their impulses, what it can often lead them to problems. They say they are free, but they can’t control their anger, their greed, their jealousy, their hunger, their prejudice, their own thoughts! They are slave of their own desires, they know some of those are destructive, and they still think they are free.

They say they are free, but they can’t have enough money to have a vacation or enjoy family. So, they are committed to their job. They say they are free, but they can’t stop worrying, their anxieties are eating them up, stealing their peace and joy of life. They have money but also, they are insecure, they fear everybody and everywhere. They can’t properly trust anybody, because they think everyone wants their money.
I can keep going and telling you all the miserable things that people commit themselves to, deceiving themselves as free people.

Now I am going to say to you that I am free. I don’t worry a thing because my Jesus takes care of me every day, every minute. If I have problems? Of course, I do, but they can’t disturb my night of sleep. Yes, I am not rich, but I don’t lack anything. Jesus is my good Shepherd. He provides everything for me and my family. I feel secure; speaking of which, I have no problem of trust people because my treasure is not on earth, nobody can steal it (Matthew 6:19). If self-control is an issue? Not anymore. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Phi 4:13). I know who my master is. He doesn’t impair my life. He improves it. My Master isn’t my own desires, my flesh or my own understanding.
Paul gave us a good example once. He talked about an athlete who exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath. We (Christian), an imperishable (1 Corinthians 9:25). We Christians also have a goal. Our goal is to see Jesus face to face; we endure a very hard journey to get there, but meanwhile, even with all hardships that life can bring, we enjoy our journey. It isn’t unbearable because, yet we don’t see, but we feel Jesus by our side all the way.

The rules people reject by thinking they would lose their freedom, in fact, give us the tools to be free from our own flesh. With those rules, we learn to think straight, and we don’t suffer the consequences of carnal mistakes. When we slip, we suffer the consequences like anybody else. We are not super-power people. We are super disciplined people. People who understand the value of love. We love God first, and we love the neighbor even that neighbor isn’t worthy of love by the eyes of the world, he is still worth by the eyes of Jesus. And that is our superpower. To love the unlovable. To forgive the unforgivable. To resist the irresistible. To control the uncontrollable. We simply are the winners, and our prize is in heaven.

We are free from sin. Sin has no power over us, Christ set us free when He died on that cross and won death resurrecting on the third day. There is where our power comes from. It comes from Jesus.

Somos pessoas super disciplinadas.

Estamos livres do pecado.

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the Word of God to be more acceptable and palatab

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost you

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe
