Restoration // Restauração

Espere no Senhor. Seja forte! Coragem!Espere no Senhor. (Salmos 27:14)
Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! (Psalm 27:14)

August. Here we are. More than half-year has passed now, and I have already read the books of Kings (1 and 2) and Chronicles (1 and 2). In summary, those 4 books tell us the stories about the kings of Israel, the good ones and the bad ones. We also have learned a lot from them, especially their mistakes. God loves us however He is a just God. He wants us to obey His word, but when we insist on not listening to Him, he will make us listen to one way or another.

As we have noticed, neither the people of Israel nor Judah listened to the word of God through the law nor the prophets. God had to fulfill his word. God led them to exile.

Only then, the people of God, in the middle of the heathen people, were able to pay attention to what God was saying. Sometimes, God takes us away from things and people who steal our focus from God. God is a jealous God; he doesn’t want your shared attention. He wants you whole. And if for that He needs to take you to exile, He will, until you learn who you should to put first in your life. He first tries to tell you things with so many different ways, until you leave Him no option but exile.

The time is passing and during the exile, the people finally turn their attention to God, the true God. They learned to wait for the Lord and at the right time, when they were ready, they would come back to their land. The restoration had begun at the moment they were captured. God didn’t abandon them not even for a minute. God was with them the whole time. Even though we feel like God has abandoned us when we are going through hardships; but He is patiently waiting for us to turn our undivided attention to Him.

God let them be broken. So, then God could make them new again. They were a hard-heart people, a stiff-neck people; so are we; we want things done in our own way, in our own time, trusting in our own “wisdom”. That is not gonna work with God. The people of Israel and Judah got used to their evil ways so they couldn’t realize how far they had gone away from God. They left no other option to God, but exile. God had warned them so many times, and they didn’t listen.

Now, the restoration had begun. God doesn’t give up on us. So, the people grew stronger together as a people. When they first got in Babylon, they were weak, but as they draw near to God they were getting stronger. They repented. They studied the book of the Law. The restoration started in their hearts, then God took them back to restore the temple.

God also restore the land. God gave the land the time it needed to be renewed; all the sabbaths the people had neglected to the land, God allowed the earth to recover (God is worried about nature too).

We can see the big picture here from, at least, two angles. An individual one, if you’re going through an exile-phase. Or as a people of God, who has been in exile since the fall (Adam and Eve). We belong to God, we are heaven’s citizens, we are exiled here on the earth and one day we’ll leave this place. This feeling of ‘not belonging’ is true. We don’t belong here. But we must be restored while in this exile; we must seek God and get ready when the day comes.

Our individual exile also makes us draw near to God and put our life in God’s perspective if we allow it. God is teaching us a lesson. He is restoring us. First, we acknowledge that He is God, and make us new; then He starts restoring the temple, that is our body; we may think he has abandoned us, but he hasn’t. He is right here with you; restoring you from inside out.

Open your heart, let Him make you new. A new temple, New Law, New Wall. He will give you another dynamic of life. The one you won’t regret it. The one He is in control and you’ll be safe.

The restoration takes time. It can't be done quickly. So, be patient. Be open to His work. Lay down your pride, your old ways. Sometimes it may be painful, but it is for the greater good.
Agosto. Aqui estamos.

Agora, a restauração havia começado.

A restauração leva tempo.

My take on these stories // Minha opinião nessas histórias

The 2 Samuel 9 and 10 are about David’s kindness toward others. One person received his kindness humbly, knowing that wasn’t expected from that king in particular. Saul was the first king of Israel and did not obey the word of the LORD. Therefore, the kingdom was taken away from him and his lineage. God announced to Saul that he was going to give the kingdom to someone else. Being David. Because David was not a descendant of Saul, once he started reigning, it was expected that the new king, non-descendant of the former, would kill all the former king’s descendants so no one would stand in the line of succession. Bu David did not do that. Instead, he chose to show kindness toward the last person from Saul’s house.  Saul’s grandson accepted David’s kindness. And we have a beautiful story about grace.  Chapter 10, however, tells a different story. A story of a man who didn’t accept David’s kindness because that was what he was. A person who suspected everyone around him. He ...

Arise and eat // Levante e coma

He came to a broom bush, sat under it, and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough,  Lord ,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”   5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once, an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”   6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the  Lord  came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”   8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19: 4-8) How many times have you wished that this life were over? I have wished that many times. Sometimes it is just too painful, or sad, or hopeless, isn’t it? You know, Elijah...

Choose to be full of...// Escolha ser cheio de...

Can you choose to be   Joyful? (Full of joy) Peaceful? (full of peace) Patient? (full of patience) Kind? (full of kindness) Good? (full of goodness) Faithful? (full of faith) Gentle? (full of gentleness) Generous? (full of generosity) Self-controlled? (totally self-controlled) Can you choose to be like that all the time? To everyone?   What other religion would promise you that? I am not saying that all Christians are like that all the time. No, we are not, unfortunately. However, we are prone to be more successful than others, do you know why?  When Jesus was lifted to the heavens after his resurrection, he promised that a few days later, His Spirit would come to live in us. The Holy Spirit is our helper. When we live a godly life, a prayer life, and are filled with the Holy Spirit, those are the characteristics that should be seen in us—if not all of them, at least most of them.  Would you like to live like that? To treat people like that? Well, I suppose so. ...
