Like Gold // Como ouro

“But He knows the way that I take, when He has tried me, I shall come out as gold” Job 23:10

Have you ever seen a raw ore of gold? It looks like a regular rock. Nothing that captures your attention at first. But if you look it closely you would see that potential of that rock. If you melt on high temperature (about 1064°C = 1947°F) you would find something characterized by “softness or malleability that lends itself to being shaped into intricate structures without sophisticated metalworking equipment”.(link)
Okay! Who would have thought!

Let’s imagine you find an ore of gold. And you must look closely, would wear this piece of rock on your neck? Nobody would say that is gold, would it? I didn’t think so. SO, if you want to wear that gold you must refine it. And that process demands fire, and you must give it some shape, so you can use that piece of gold.

Now, let’s think this way. You and I are ores of gold. God is the refiner. He knows that you and I are special. He can see through us. But without the refining, what use do we have? We must be tried by fire and shaped into something. Take a look at the video and think about you being an ore. There are so many steps before becoming a jewel. It isn’t an easy and fast process that we must go through, so our true value can be truly expressed and seen. We will shine after that. He will use us for His purposes.

Some people think the refining process is fatal; it will kill their lives. They choose not to go through it. And they will never know their true value. They will live thinking they are shining all their potential. I am not saying that being refined isn’t painful; if the ore of gold could speak it would say that refining process hurt, a lot, unimaginably. But the ore of gold would choose to stay an ore or would choose to be a jewel, a very expensive jewel? The cost is high, but it is worth it.

We must endure our trials so we can shine our total potential. We shine God’s glory. The more we resist to recognize God’s work in us, the longer it will be the process. He is the only one who sees our real value, he sees right through us, through our roughness. He is the one who knows what kind of refining and shaping each one of us need.

You are ore of gold. Don’t you want to be a jewel of gold?

Agora vamos pensar assim.

I see Grace in the time of the Law // Eu vejo Graça no tempo da Lei

People frequently say that the Old Testament is the time of the law, and now we are under the Grace of God. Surprisingly, I just found out an explicit act of the Grace of God in the Old Testament. As I read chapter 9 of Deuteronomy , in which has a title Not because of Righteousness (ESV). I am stunned to see verses 4 - 6, they say: “ Do not say in your heart , after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘ It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you. 5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.6 “Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is not giving y...

No "trouble-free" card for you // Nenhum cartão "livre-de-problemas" para você

The Word of the Lord is beautiful and true. In there, you find so many poems. This is the form the Bible authors chose to communicate the Word of the LORD, and it is profound. I’ve been listening to the Bible Project podcast for more than a year now. Lately, they are covering the theme of “The Wilderness”. Now, everywhere I read in the Scripture, I see something related to it. It is amazing. I am now in the book of the prophet Isaiah, chapter 43. And guess what? It is wonderful. Just in the first few verses, you find that God is telling His people that it doesn’t matter what sort of hardship they are going through, He, the Creator, will deliver them. Actually, it is said like this: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior....

The oppressive urge to speak // A necessidade opressiva de falar

Should I keep quiet forever? Is silence that bad? Can’t I stand my own thoughts that I need to say out loud? What kind of thoughts come to my mind? Are they generally good or bad? If I choose to speak up, to whom would it benefit? If anyone ever. Let me be clear: It is better not to say a word than say words that will do more harm than good. What if it is the truth? I ask, why would you say it? How would you say it? The truth will come out eventually. You don’t need to lie or be rude. What we must do is to be kind. If I tell you the truth in a harsh way, will you accept, or will you only hear the harsh sound of my voice and ignore completely what I was trying to say? Sometimes, not even the kindest words won’t make it through because the listener isn’t listening at all. The listener doesn’t care about your opinion, doesn’t care about others. The listener just cares about himself. The listener just wants to say w...
