Love and Righteousness // Amor e Justiça

In the previous post, I have talked about love. Love is very complex. It is full of details and a hard thing to do, especially in the current time that we live in when love is something physical, carnal, and often related to sex. But Love, in reality, has very little to do with sex at all.

When the word righteousness is translated into our current language, it is often translated as justice, and the meaning is a little bit deeper than just justice like we are used to currently.

In its deeper spiritual meaning, righteousness is the quality of being right in the eyes of God, including character (nature), conscience (attitude), conduct (action), and command (word). Righteousness is, therefore, based upon God's standard because He is the ultimate Lawgiver (Isaiah 33:22).

The Righteousness of God looks a lot like Love to me, or at least there is some sort of integration between them. They most likely happen together. As I see it, one word depends on the other to have the complete meaning as I understand it.

When you practice Love (the one that has nothing to do with sex), you also practice Righteousness. Why? When you act with love toward someone, you are doing right to that person. And to do right to a person means you are righteous. (see the video)

The righteousness of God is God doing right by us. God is righteous and faithful, and He is love. All these three characteristics are entangled in each other.

God sent Jesus so we could have someone on whom we could mirror our lives. Besides God’s salvation plan through Jesus.

So, Jesus is the Son of God. We are to mirror our behavior onto Jesus. Jesus was righteous. Jesus loved us until death. Jesus is faithful and true. Therefore, we can be like Jesus. Jesus didn’t fall into temptations. Remember, right before he was delivered to the chief priest, he was praying and asking God to pass that cup away from him. Why? Because he was being tempted not to go through the plan, the cross. But he resisted saying that he would do whatever the Father wanted him to do. He was human and knew how much he had to suffer for us.

This is all because I want to say that some people say that Jesus was God, so he could go through all that, and we are human; we can never be like Jesus. Jesus was perfect and never sinned. Yes, we attest to that. But if we could never achieve what Jesus was on earth, why did He come at all?

My point is that it is convenient to justify our sins when we don’t want to give up on anything. We want to persist in doing what is wrong, saying that Jesus was perfect and we can’t be like Him.

Excuse me! You are definitely wrong in your thinking. You can do whatever Jesus did if only you have faith. Second, God is powerful, and He can help you if only you ask. Third, when you say that you can’t do it, you are saying that God can’t help you. And that my friend is wrong.

If you have an addiction and think, ‘I’m way far gone, no one can help me anymore.’ I am sorry that you think that way because, with God, nothing is impossible. He can do whatever you want, you just need to ask him. You think, ‘I’m beyond help, I have done so many bad things, I have been evil to people or whatever, God wants nothing to do with me.’ That is the lie that the devil wants you to believe. God is waiting for you. ‘I am what God abhor.’ God forgives all sins. God can transform you, and you will be full of joy, love, goodness, and so much more. God hasn’t given up on you. It does not matter if you are whatever you think you are, and you know that in sight of God, you are not accepted. But I tell you, if you come to Him with a sincere heart and repent, He will accept you, and He will be with you, help you, and transform your life. He’ll give you a new life. Are you up for that? Are you brave enough to be seen differently and judged by others because you have been transformed and say that God has done all that?

Check it out on the internet; you will find so many people telling their stories of how Jesus has transformed their lives.  If you want to try Jesus, go with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength without doubt, and you will be surprised by how wonderful it is to feel his presence.

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe...

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost...

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the ...
