“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter ( in the eternal) life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where “‘The worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.’ Everyone will be salted with fire. “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”

I was meditating on this passage a few days ago, and the Bible study teacher said something I had never considered. Jesus repeated three times to cut a member of the body: the hand, the foot, and the eye. I wanted to share what these three body parts may represent in the context in which Jesus was talking. So, the hand may represent what we do. What is it that we do that makes us fall or sin? Are you a gambler? Are you a robber? What do you do that makes you sin and grieve the Holy Spirit? Do you know? Probably you will think that you don’t do anything wrong. And I say, yes, right… you are a saint. But let’s assume that you are correct. Let’s move on to the next. The foot is what takes us to places. Where are you going that makes you sin? Is that restaurant that makes you eat like it were the last time you will ever see food? Is the house of a friend or a lover or a casino or… you fill in the blank. There are places that we go or pass through that make us sin. Or places you want to go, and you are driven to do whatever it takes. Is it your bathroom? The mirror… Speaking of mirror, the eye. What does the eye represent? It might represent what we see and what we do with what we see after seeing it. Someone said, I don’t know who, but I heard that the eye is the window of the soul. What do you see that makes you sin? Do you see your pride, your vanity? Do you see a loser or failure? What is it that makes you sin? Is it TV? Is it your cell phone or social media? Pornographic videos? Is it your lust? Or would it be your envy, jealousy, rage, hatred, or discrimination? What do you do with what you see? Do you keep it to yourself, or do you go after it? Do you express your feelings in words, lashing out on social media? There are so many ways to sin all the time, everywhere. Jesus said, “Cut it off,” “pluck it out”. The words Jesus chose are so aggressive; why is that? Because He had a point. The point is: you get to sacrifice, to get rid of what makes you sin, to never sin again. Stop doing whatever it is that you are doing that is compromising your discipleship. To be His disciples, you must deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Him. Jesus’ footsteps. Following Jesus means we will do our best to follow in his footsteps. Do you know what Jesus left behind to be like you and me? He is the King of the Universe, and he put on a human body with all limitations. He came with one mission: to save you and me from our worst enemy: ourselves. We don’t know what we do. We need guidance, limits, wisdom, and so much more. We are so easily deceived because of our greed and pride. We think we can do anything just because we want to. So naïve. Do you think you need freedom and Jesus was too severe in His ministry. He’s never going to force you. He did for love and wants us to do it for the same reason. So if you need to get rid of anything that makes you sin, do it, and do it now, drastically. Deal with it severely. Don’t pet your sin. Jesus won the death to guarantee our eternal life. The devil can kill the body but not the soul. Jesus cares for your soul. This body is temporary. It is perishing right now. No surgery is going to fix it. This body of yours is dying. And where do you want to go? Nothing from this world is worth more than your eternal life with Christ. Jesus said, “Everyone will be salted with fire. “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.” We are all going to be tested, tested by fire. Jesus wants us to make a difference, to season the world. If we become just like everybody else, it means we are not making any difference. The salt lost its saltness, and what happens with this salt? He had said, “But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” Matthew 5:13. Don’t take your sins lightly. Jesus will not take them lightly. Be serious about learning more about Jesus and His ways so you can follow his footsteps. Go before the mirror and check first yourself out. E se o seu olho o fizer tropeçar, arranque-o. É melhor entrar no Reino de Deus com um só olho do que, tendo os dois olhos, ser lançado no inferno, onde “‘o seu verme não morre, e o fogo não se apaga’. Cada um será salgado com fogo. “O sal é bom, mas se deixar de ser salgado, como restaurar o seu sabor? Tenham sal em vocês mesmos e vivam em paz uns com os outros.” Marcos 9:42-50.
Eu estava meditando nesta passagem há alguns dias e a professora de estudo bíblico disse algo que eu nunca havia considerado. Jesus repetiu três vezes para cortar um membro do corpo: a mão, o pé e o olho. Queria compartilhar o que essas três partes do corpo podem representar no contexto em que Jesus estava falando. Então, a mão pode representar o que fazemos. O que fazemos que nos faz cair ou pecar? Você é um jogador? Você é um ladrão? O que você faz que o faz pecar e entristecer o Espírito Santo? Você sabe? Provavelmente você pensará que não fez nada de errado. E eu digo, sim, certo... você é um santo. Mas vamos supor que você esteja correto. Vamos passar para o próximo. O pé é o que nos leva aos lugares. Aonde você vai que te faz pecar? É aquele restaurante que te faz comer como se fosse a última vez que você verá comida? É a casa de um amigo ou de um amante ou um cassino ou… você preenche o espaço em branco. Há lugares por onde vamos ou por onde passamos que nos fazem pecar. Ou lugares que você deseja ir e é levado a fazer o que for preciso. É o seu banheiro? O espelho… Falando em espelho, o olho. O que o olho representa? Pode representar o que vemos e o que fazemos com o que vemos depois de ver. Alguém disse não sei quem, mas ouvi dizer que o olho é a janela da alma. O que você vê que faz você pecar? Você vê seu orgulho, sua vaidade? Você vê um perdedor ou um fracassado? O que é que faz você pecar? É televisão? É o seu celular ou mídia social? Vídeos pornográficos? É a sua luxúria? Ou seria a sua inveja, ciúme, raiva, ódio ou discriminação? O que você faz com o que vê? Você guarda isso para si mesmo ou vai atrás disso? Você expressa seus sentimentos em palavras, atacando nas redes sociais? Existem tantas maneiras de pecar o tempo todo, em todos os lugares. Jesus disse: “Corte-o”, “arranque-o”. As palavras que Jesus escolheu são muito agressivas; por que é que são? Porque Ele tinha razão. A questão é: você tem que sacrificar, se livrar do que te faz pecar, para nunca mais pecar. Pare de fazer tudo o que você está fazendo que está comprometendo o seu discipulado. Para ser Seus discípulos, você deve negar a si mesmo, tomar a sua cruz e segui-Lo. Os passos de Jesus. Seguir Jesus significa que faremos o nosso melhor para seguir seus passos. Você sabe o que Jesus deixou para trás para ser como você e eu? Ele é o Rei do Universo e assumiu um corpo humano com todas as limitações. Ele veio com uma missão: salvar você e eu do nosso pior inimigo: nós mesmos. Não sabemos o que fazemos. Precisamos de orientação, limites, sabedoria e muito mais. Somos facilmente enganados por causa da nossa ganância e orgulho. Achamos que podemos fazer qualquer coisa só porque queremos. Tão ingênuo. Você acha que precisa de liberdade e Jesus foi muito severo em Seu ministério? Ele nunca vai forçar você. Ele fez isso por amor e quer que façamos isso pela mesma razão. Então, se você precisa se livrar de qualquer coisa que o faça pecar, faça-o, e faça-o agora, drasticamente. Lide com isso severamente. Não acaricie seu pecado. Jesus venceu a morte para garantir nossa vida eterna. O diabo pode matar o corpo, mas não a alma. Jesus cuida da sua alma. Este corpo é temporário. Está perecendo agora. Nenhuma cirurgia vai consertar isso. Este seu corpo está morrendo. E para onde você quer ir? Nada deste mundo vale mais do que sua vida eterna com Cristo. Jesus disse: “Cada um será salgado com fogo. “O sal é bom, mas se deixar de ser salgado, como restaurar o seu sabor? Tenham sal em vocês mesmos e vivam em paz uns com os outros.”
Todos seremos testados, testados pelo fogo. Jesus quer que façamos a diferença, que temperemos o mundo. Se nos tornarmos iguais a todos os outros, isso significa que não estamos fazendo nenhuma diferença. O sal perdeu a salinidade, e o que acontece com esse sal? Ele havia dito: “Mas se o sal perder o sabor, como poderá tornar-se salgado novamente? Não serve mais para nada, exceto para ser jogado fora e pisoteado.” Mateus 5:13. Não leve seus pecados levianamente. Jesus não os tratará levianamente. Leve a sério o aprendizado mais sobre Jesus e Seus caminhos para que você possa seguir seus passos. Vá diante do espelho e verifique primeiro você mesmo. |
