Who has ears // Quem tem orelhas

So, Jesus cured a deaf-mute man (Mark 7:31 - 37). It got me thinking. Are you deaf? Are we mute? In church, we have been stimulated to spread the good news. I’ve been doing it, through here. I’m content. But, how about you? Are you listening to me? Or you are simply reading it because you know me and yeah… sometimes she has something interesting to say. Or you are really listening? How about you who knows already and says that live the good news. Are you talking about or you are being mute?

People will only hear if someone, out there, is speaking. If you are not speaking, then nobody is listening.
You know, when Jesus performed this miracle, he did not say “your sins are forgiven, or speak up”; instead He chose to do something different, like put his fingers in the man’s ears and spit on his tongue, and then He said: “Ephphatha” which means “be opened”. Why did he do that? I believe that some people are more visual, and to believe they need to see something. It doesn’t matter if it is going to make sense, but they need to see. Maybe, this man had this thing, and Jesus knowing his heart, performed this trick. Obviously, Jesus could only just say the word, as He did some verses before; but all depends on the sick person’s faith.

In John 20:29 says “Blessed are those who did not see and yet believed.” Like you and me. Or do you need to see? Certainly, you need to hear. Because, faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17).
But several times Jesus said, who has ears let him hear (Mark 4:9; Matthew 7:24; 11:15; 13:9); what Jesus meant by that, He meant that it is not exactly your hearing that is with the problem, but your heart that is hard. If you have been listening to people talk about the good news and yet you don’t believe in it, so the problem is in your heart.  About that there is nothing I can do.

All I can do is talk about how wonderful Jesus is, and the wonders He can do in your life if only you believe. He has his open arms waiting for you to surrender to his love and compassion, to forgive your sins and help you to get up from the mud, get out of your pit and live the life He has prepared for you. If only you believe.

It is hard today when people have this hard heart like the prophet Jeremiah said “Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent. (v. 3); Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear: Should you not fear me?” declares the Lord. Should you not tremble in my presence? (v.21, 22); (…) but this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; they have turned aside and gone away (Jeremiah 5:23).”

Let’s not be like this people. In Revelations 3:20 is written: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me”. This is Jesus telling us, that He is at our door, did you hear him knocking? Ephphatha! Be open your ears and your mouth. Who has ears, let him hear. Invite Him over!

Então, Jesus curou um surdo-mudo (Marcos 7:31 – 37). Isso me fez pensar.

Abre teus ouvidos e tua boca.
Quem tem ouvido, ouça. Convide-o para entrar!

Come and See + Judge correctly // Venha e Veja + Julgue corretamente

Venha e Veja   Two verses stood out for me this morning. John 7:17-18 and 7:24.   “ Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.   18  Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.” John 7:24 “ Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”   That was Jesus talking.  I lately heard that some people with vast knowledge of the Bible (we all want to believe) are being led astray through the vain doctrines of this world. Meaning, that some church leaders or people have earned the people's trust by telling them lies about the teachings of the Bible. People seek their own popularity by agreeing with the lies the world has offered them.  I have seen churches with flags and teaching doctrines that the Bible condemns. They have twisted the Word of God to be more acceptable and palatab

Pointing finger // Apontar o dedo

Recently I was studying the Sermon on the mount in a bible study at the church. It was wonderful to meditate and go deep in these Jesus’ words. So many details we sometimes don’t realize. We are very quick to see the flaws and failures of others. But interestingly the things we see faster in others are probably the things we don’t see or won’t see in ourselves. It is easy to point a finger when someone is, for example, throwing trash on the streets, when one doesn’t even bother to do the same at home. In Brazil, we have this saying “blacksmith’s house, woodpecker.” Who are you to point a finger to anyone when you yourself cannot do better? Your sin is no smaller than his. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ( Matthew 7 :3). Look, sawdust is something small, and plank or log is something much bigger than sawdust. Sometimes we are able to see something very insignificant in othe

Are you lost? // Você está perdido?

Você está perdido? There is always this time in life when we are certain about what to do with our lives. We have a goal, and an objective to reach. However, it is often that life turns the other way around and our plans are made nothing. Frequently I hear people say, “I am lost, I don’t know what to do!” That happens when we put our goals into something that changes. Everything in this world change. You and I are changing by the minute. My thoughts right now are running like crazy, and if I don’t set a goal in something that doesn’t change, I can’t do anything. What is it?   Jesus. The word of God. You might think I am crazy, and lunatic or even a fanatic. But who really knows me, know that I am none of those things. I am a very sensible person who has lived and experienced many things. And I don’t lie. So, if you are experiencing a sense of loss and despair, how about putting your hope in the One who cannot change whatsoever. If you lost you
