Why do I ask and don't receive?// Por que eu peço e não recebo?

Yesterday I talked about asking in the name of Jesus, because it is written in John 14:13 that you may ask whatever. Do you really understand that? Let’s see what James understood about it when he heard it. I think, he got for the first time. He wrote:
“What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.” James 4:1 – 3.

But wait a minute, Jesus said we could ask whatever, right? Right, but you are forgetting the last part of what He said. “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:13.

So, whatever you ask, you must have in mind that The Father will be glorified in the Son through your request. Did you understand that? So, when James says, “to spend it on your passions”, this means that for sure your requests weren’t to the Father be glorified. What kind of requests are these that we do, and the Father is not glorified? The request that someone else will be glorified, in general, ourselves.

What happens when we ask such requests and don’t receive? We quarrel among ourselves; we get frustrated and disappointed.
What causes quarrels among you? (James asked) Think about why you are fighting your family, your husband/wife, your boss. Sometimes we want things to go smoothly, in our ways, just like we planned in our minds. And when that doesn’t happen, how do we feel? Infuriated, disappointed and frustrated. But why? Because our pride got in the way, we want to do the best, we want to be recognized by others and that is when we fail. We fail because what we planned wasn’t to the Father be glorified, it was for us to be glorified and recognized as the best.

Currently, the world has given too much attention to the self, self-indulgent, hedonism, pleasure-seeking. And the Bible teaches exactly the opposite like the importance of being selfless, altruistic, sober, temperate.

In verse 6 and 7 if you keep reading “…Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”. Being humble is something that currently isn’t seeing as something to be proud of. These words don’t even match in the same sentence. If you think yourself as humble, you are not being humble at all.

So the lesson of today is: whatever you ask in the name of Jesus, make sure that the Father will be glorified in your request, not you. If you realize that you are quarreling a lot, think about what are the things that you are not getting; people around us are not a robot, nor your servants that they must do anything to please you. Being humble is something like putting yourself at last so the will of others might be met first. This is something that you have to choose to be, to behave conscientiously.

Jesus died so we could receive The Holy Spirit who helps us to change our evil nature. These are the things you should be focusing on, the inner changes you need to be a better person, a person like Jesus. In these, the Father will be glorified, because no one else can change that, only He.

Vocês vivem a lutar e a fazer guerras.

My take on these stories // Minha opinião nessas histórias

The 2 Samuel 9 and 10 are about David’s kindness toward others. One person received his kindness humbly, knowing that wasn’t expected from that king in particular. Saul was the first king of Israel and did not obey the word of the LORD. Therefore, the kingdom was taken away from him and his lineage. God announced to Saul that he was going to give the kingdom to someone else. Being David. Because David was not a descendant of Saul, once he started reigning, it was expected that the new king, non-descendant of the former, would kill all the former king’s descendants so no one would stand in the line of succession. Bu David did not do that. Instead, he chose to show kindness toward the last person from Saul’s house.  Saul’s grandson accepted David’s kindness. And we have a beautiful story about grace.  Chapter 10, however, tells a different story. A story of a man who didn’t accept David’s kindness because that was what he was. A person who suspected everyone around him. He ...

Arise and eat // Levante e coma

He came to a broom bush, sat under it, and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough,  Lord ,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”   5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once, an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”   6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the  Lord  came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”   8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19: 4-8) How many times have you wished that this life were over? I have wished that many times. Sometimes it is just too painful, or sad, or hopeless, isn’t it? You know, Elijah...

Choose to be full of...// Escolha ser cheio de...

Can you choose to be   Joyful? (Full of joy) Peaceful? (full of peace) Patient? (full of patience) Kind? (full of kindness) Good? (full of goodness) Faithful? (full of faith) Gentle? (full of gentleness) Generous? (full of generosity) Self-controlled? (totally self-controlled) Can you choose to be like that all the time? To everyone?   What other religion would promise you that? I am not saying that all Christians are like that all the time. No, we are not, unfortunately. However, we are prone to be more successful than others, do you know why?  When Jesus was lifted to the heavens after his resurrection, he promised that a few days later, His Spirit would come to live in us. The Holy Spirit is our helper. When we live a godly life, a prayer life, and are filled with the Holy Spirit, those are the characteristics that should be seen in us—if not all of them, at least most of them.  Would you like to live like that? To treat people like that? Well, I suppose so. ...
