What are your standards? // Quais são os seus padrões?

Regulações, códigos, regras, padrões, orientações, conformidade

In the book of Jeremiah, the prophet, who was being persecuted, was called into the presence of king Zedekiah. I realized that Zedekiah knew the word of God and believed it. However, he was afraid of what the people would say and do if he obeyed the word of God, he thought the people would kill him; he would have been known as a coward or a traitor. But the prophet had said that his life would be spared if he surrendered to the king of Babylon, as God had said. Having his life spared seemed not enough for him, I guess.

Sometimes, what people think is more important than to obey the word of God. We know what is right, and what we should do, but somehow, the world standards don’t accept that, and we have probably led astray from God because of the false concepts of the world. Besides the fear of rejection and shame, we end up doing just the opposite of God’s will for our life. Yes, God didn’t promise Zedekiah a good life, but He promised his life and Jerusalem would be spared (Jeremiah 38:14 – 28)

Sometimes we rather live out of fear of what people think and do to us than trust in the word of God; because what people say seems more reasonable than what God says to us to do, right? It seems the evil of the world is more certain that the goodness of God. When we act like that, we are diminishing the power of God. We are making evil equal to the goodness of God. That can’t be true. However, if we choose to live in fear, for sure we will be consumed by it. And the darkness around will take over, and it will be true. But if we choose to trust in God’s word no darkness can overcome the light, especially if the light is God’s.

Fear only God, because everything is under His control, everything, even the bad things. And when God says to you do something, you better obey His word. Nothing is above Him. He is Sovereign. Zedekiah chose badly, he did not do what the prophet had said; because of his fears, Jerusalem was burnt down. If only the king had chosen wisely, the whole story would be different.

After all, what he had done (he was a bad king), that would be good enough. Even though, it wasn’t enough for the world standards.

Dare to step out of your fears. It may mean hard times ahead, but you won’t be alone. It won’t mean certain death; it will mean victory; victory over your fears that have imprisoned you. Dare to trust in the LORD.

There is another part that caught my eye. The vision that Jeremiah had (v.21 – 22) “…your trusted friends have deceived you and prevailed against you; now that your feet are sunk in the mud, they turn away from you”.
Beware who are your friends. Beware of your current standards, if they don’t agree with God’s standards, you might be going to sink your feet in the mud, and those who say to be your friends might turn their back at you. Your true friend is called Jesus, the standard you should be looking into achieving are God’s, and you can only do that through Jesus.

In 1 Timothy 6:6 -12, Paul is teaching Timothy to fight the false doctrines. We have seen many false doctrines running around lately. Once I heard someone say, “any path leads to God”. That is a lie. There is only one way to God, and that is Jesus. No matter what you do, if it is not through faith in Jesus, it's worthless. You won’t go too far on that.  Repent means to change your ways, your ways of doing and thinking. Believe that He had died for you because we alone cannot do right before God. Only by the blood of Jesus.

Let your faith in Jesus, in what all He has done wash you clean before God. Only then in your faith in Jesus, your life can be turned around differently.

There is no one else  able enough  to make you clean before God, not even yourself “doing everything right” (because your motives would be in the wrong place, because you’re not strong enough to do what is needed to be done, because your cross is too heavy for you because we are born sinners), no efforts will be enough. I needed Jesus, so do you.

We can only achieve a godly life, a righteous life with Jesus, following His footsteps, listening to His words. Other than that, is meaningless.

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and[a] we cannot take anything out of the world. 11 ... Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6)

Ouse confiar no SENHOR.

I see Grace in the time of the Law // Eu vejo Graça no tempo da Lei

People frequently say that the Old Testament is the time of the law, and now we are under the Grace of God. Surprisingly, I just found out an explicit act of the Grace of God in the Old Testament. As I read chapter 9 of Deuteronomy , in which has a title Not because of Righteousness (ESV). I am stunned to see verses 4 - 6, they say: “ Do not say in your heart , after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘ It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you. 5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.6 “Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is not giving y...

No "trouble-free" card for you // Nenhum cartão "livre-de-problemas" para você

The Word of the Lord is beautiful and true. In there, you find so many poems. This is the form the Bible authors chose to communicate the Word of the LORD, and it is profound. I’ve been listening to the Bible Project podcast for more than a year now. Lately, they are covering the theme of “The Wilderness”. Now, everywhere I read in the Scripture, I see something related to it. It is amazing. I am now in the book of the prophet Isaiah, chapter 43. And guess what? It is wonderful. Just in the first few verses, you find that God is telling His people that it doesn’t matter what sort of hardship they are going through, He, the Creator, will deliver them. Actually, it is said like this: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior....

The oppressive urge to speak // A necessidade opressiva de falar

Should I keep quiet forever? Is silence that bad? Can’t I stand my own thoughts that I need to say out loud? What kind of thoughts come to my mind? Are they generally good or bad? If I choose to speak up, to whom would it benefit? If anyone ever. Let me be clear: It is better not to say a word than say words that will do more harm than good. What if it is the truth? I ask, why would you say it? How would you say it? The truth will come out eventually. You don’t need to lie or be rude. What we must do is to be kind. If I tell you the truth in a harsh way, will you accept, or will you only hear the harsh sound of my voice and ignore completely what I was trying to say? Sometimes, not even the kindest words won’t make it through because the listener isn’t listening at all. The listener doesn’t care about your opinion, doesn’t care about others. The listener just cares about himself. The listener just wants to say w...
