Hardened heart // Coração endurecido

As has just been said:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
    do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.”
Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief. (Hebrews 3: 15 – 19)
Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,
“So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”
And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. (Hebrews 4: 1- 3)

So, yeah.
Another day I talked about how we can read the story of Moses taking people out of Egypt and our lives and ways to God; how we usually rebel against God over and over again during our lives. We are no different from them. We have seen the wonders, we have Jesus and the Holy Spirit, and somehow we manage to rebel against God after all He has done to us.

We ignore his commandments; we think we know our ways better than Him. We choose vengeance, we choose ourselves first, then we think “later I’ll think about the neighbor”. We are seeking other’s approval. We constantly have hardened our hearts to His voice. We feel safe because we go to church every Sunday, and now and then we do something to help the poor (and take the snapshot and show in social media), we sing in the choir so people can see that we are serving God. Many Jews feel safe because they think “I am part of the chosen people”.
But, God is more interested in your heart. What is really going on in there? People around only see the outside, but God sees the inside. Jesus answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. (Luke 10:27) Heart – goes to your feelings, soul and strength go to your body and mind goes to your reason, intellectual thoughts.

God wants you wholly holy. Not just your attitudes, not just your heart but all of you.

The people who left Egypt saw things we have never seen, yet they didn’t change. They left Egypt but Egypt didn’t leave them. God loved them and saved them, but their hearts were hardened. Even they had seen all those wonders, they could not choose to change, and they didn’t enter the promised land. We can go to church, serve as much as we want, but if your heart is hardened, you won’t see the promised land.

We hear we see, we pray, but like the pharisees, their hearts were hardened. They had too much worried in their mind and too many priorities other than God. They had been studying the scriptures all their lives even though they could not see what was happening. Make sure daily your heart has not been hardened.
Think about this:
·         When you see a homeless, what is your first thought?
·         When you see a sign with SALE on it, what is your first thought?
·         When someone offends you, what is your first thought?

Dear Lord, help me focus on you. I don’t want my heart to be hardened. Remind it every day how much I need you. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

    no meu descanso”;
embora as suas obras estivessem concluídas desde a criação do mundo. (Hebreus 4: 1- 3)

Querido Senhor, me ajude a manter o foco em Ti.

I see Grace in the time of the Law // Eu vejo Graça no tempo da Lei

People frequently say that the Old Testament is the time of the law, and now we are under the Grace of God. Surprisingly, I just found out an explicit act of the Grace of God in the Old Testament. As I read chapter 9 of Deuteronomy , in which has a title Not because of Righteousness (ESV). I am stunned to see verses 4 - 6, they say: “ Do not say in your heart , after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘ It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you. 5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.6 “Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is not giving y...

The oppressive urge to speak // A necessidade opressiva de falar

Should I keep quiet forever? Is silence that bad? Can’t I stand my own thoughts that I need to say out loud? What kind of thoughts come to my mind? Are they generally good or bad? If I choose to speak up, to whom would it benefit? If anyone ever. Let me be clear: It is better not to say a word than say words that will do more harm than good. What if it is the truth? I ask, why would you say it? How would you say it? The truth will come out eventually. You don’t need to lie or be rude. What we must do is to be kind. If I tell you the truth in a harsh way, will you accept, or will you only hear the harsh sound of my voice and ignore completely what I was trying to say? Sometimes, not even the kindest words won’t make it through because the listener isn’t listening at all. The listener doesn’t care about your opinion, doesn’t care about others. The listener just cares about himself. The listener just wants to say w...

No "trouble-free" card for you // Nenhum cartão "livre-de-problemas" para você

The Word of the Lord is beautiful and true. In there, you find so many poems. This is the form the Bible authors chose to communicate the Word of the LORD, and it is profound. I’ve been listening to the Bible Project podcast for more than a year now. Lately, they are covering the theme of “The Wilderness”. Now, everywhere I read in the Scripture, I see something related to it. It is amazing. I am now in the book of the prophet Isaiah, chapter 43. And guess what? It is wonderful. Just in the first few verses, you find that God is telling His people that it doesn’t matter what sort of hardship they are going through, He, the Creator, will deliver them. Actually, it is said like this: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior....
