The will of God for you // A vontade de Deus para você

In the past when I used to read the Old Testament, I usually didn’t take into account most of the historical facts and the commandments, because I thought they had nothing to do with the New Testament. How mistaken I was! We have to remember His Word never changes, that's why both, the New and the Old Testament are linked. Unfortunately, I learned that not some many years ago, and fortunately I did learn that. Better later than never! We can see Jesus all over the Old Testament and we can see the commandment all over the New Testament.

Reading the bible is easy. Understanding the Bible not so much; we can accomplish that only with the Holy Spirit help.

People frequently wonder “what is the will of God for my life?” They can’t quite figure that out. His will is all over the Bible, described several times with several different words. It isn’t anything mysterious. It is very clear. The plan for your life is your choice. If you obey His word, your plan will follow accordingly with His will, and He will bless you.

Sometimes we hope that God tells us with all letters, like what job I should take, where I should live, who I should marry, etc.  But, if He dictated what He wanted, it wouldn’t be free will, would it? So, you make your choice, make sure you are within the parameters that the Lord says in the Bible, and you go through it.

But, sometimes, when we open our hearts, very earnestly, and we say to Him that we want to serve Him, that we want Him to work through us, He will put His will in our hearts, and He will lead us right through it. God made an open question in Isaiah 6:8Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” Isaiah raised his hand, have you raised yours? If you have not, you can still go to the harvest because is ripen, and the workers are few (Matthew 9:37). But if He didn’t pick you specifically, your field is right there wherever you are. If you raised your hand, He will take care of the rest.

Today I read these two passages, and I realize this: what He wants from all of us, and when we can’t exactly do them, we must ask Him insistently, without shame. What is it?
Well, I read in Deuteronomy 26. See, the Lord specifically was asking for GRATITUDE, GENEROSITY, OBEDIENCE AND SERVE HIM WHOLEHEARTEDLY. So, He can come with His promise of blessing with honor. If only we can be thankful to Him in all things, generous to any person, obedient to His words and to our parents (Deuteronomy 27:16), and serve Him with all our hearts, and soul (reading the bible, praying without ceasing, praising and serving others).

These are His will. Jesus came to explain all those things, and He did that all at once in the Sermon on the Mount. To all of us, that is The Will of God. The way you will choose to apply all that is your choice.

But when we can’t achieve all those things, He is commanding us, we must ask without shame and insistently for His help, wisdom, and attitude (Luke 11: 5 – 13). You search your own heart, find what you lack among these things and ask Him, and keep on asking.

If you look very carefully, on each one of these things that God expects us to find in us, we can explore them, and we will find them very hard to achieve, especially in our current days. They are interwoven with so many other things. What can you say about Gratitude? What about generosity?  And so on. How well are you being and applying them? We have a perfect example to follow: Jesus. If you really want to be His follower, you must want to look like Him. Not externally, but especially internally. It has to be part of your personality. That’s is a good reason to Ask, Seek and Knock until they become natural in you. And people will see and say that you are a Christian.

God Blesses you.

Então, disse eu: eis-me aqui, envia-me a mim.”

I see Grace in the time of the Law // Eu vejo Graça no tempo da Lei

People frequently say that the Old Testament is the time of the law, and now we are under the Grace of God. Surprisingly, I just found out an explicit act of the Grace of God in the Old Testament. As I read chapter 9 of Deuteronomy , in which has a title Not because of Righteousness (ESV). I am stunned to see verses 4 - 6, they say: “ Do not say in your heart , after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘ It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you. 5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.6 “Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is not giving y...

The oppressive urge to speak // A necessidade opressiva de falar

Should I keep quiet forever? Is silence that bad? Can’t I stand my own thoughts that I need to say out loud? What kind of thoughts come to my mind? Are they generally good or bad? If I choose to speak up, to whom would it benefit? If anyone ever. Let me be clear: It is better not to say a word than say words that will do more harm than good. What if it is the truth? I ask, why would you say it? How would you say it? The truth will come out eventually. You don’t need to lie or be rude. What we must do is to be kind. If I tell you the truth in a harsh way, will you accept, or will you only hear the harsh sound of my voice and ignore completely what I was trying to say? Sometimes, not even the kindest words won’t make it through because the listener isn’t listening at all. The listener doesn’t care about your opinion, doesn’t care about others. The listener just cares about himself. The listener just wants to say w...

No "trouble-free" card for you // Nenhum cartão "livre-de-problemas" para você

The Word of the Lord is beautiful and true. In there, you find so many poems. This is the form the Bible authors chose to communicate the Word of the LORD, and it is profound. I’ve been listening to the Bible Project podcast for more than a year now. Lately, they are covering the theme of “The Wilderness”. Now, everywhere I read in the Scripture, I see something related to it. It is amazing. I am now in the book of the prophet Isaiah, chapter 43. And guess what? It is wonderful. Just in the first few verses, you find that God is telling His people that it doesn’t matter what sort of hardship they are going through, He, the Creator, will deliver them. Actually, it is said like this: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior....
