Storms and calm // Tempestades e calmaria

“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;
By knowledge the rooms are filled with all the precious and pleasant;” Proverbs 24:3 – 4.

Have you asked yourself how your house was built? What about your home, how is it established? Or should I ask if it is still standing?

You know, people think that secular knowledge is a big deal. Well, it is for your secular life and job and acquaintances. But, do you know what the Bible means when it speaks about knowledge and wisdom?

Let’s review Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction”.

So, do you fear the LORD? Maybe, you don’t know what it means to fear the LORD. You would know if you have dedicated yourself to know Him. Because in my point of view you can only fear something if you know what you’re talking about. Right? If you know a little you fear, if you know a lot, you might trust it and fear at the same time. Let’s see. Have you seen that movie “how to train your dragon”? If I can recall, at the beginning he was afraid of the dragon, then he gets to know it and trust it. Why? He knew what the dragon was an animal to be feared, however, if you know it you can trust it; even knowing all the dangerous capacities of the dragon.

Now, if you know a little bit about God, I mean, if you acknowledge all his power and sovereignty, you would be a fool not to fear Him. Although, if you get to know Him even more, you would love Him and trust in Him, because you would only fear Him, and nothing else; because He would be by your side all the time.

Ok. Proverbs 2: 6,9- 10 says, “For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; (…) then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;”

Everything starts coming together when you start fearing the LORD for, He is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent. You should fear something like this. Then, He would give you everything you need, which is wisdom and knowledge. Why do we need them? Because, I don’t know if you realized but, every mistake we make in life it is because of our arrogance, pride, and our own stupidity. I’m not saying that once we fear the LORD, we won’t have all those things. We will still have them, however, God with us will give us strength and wisdom and knowledge to fight those tendencies.

Back to our house. Therefore, if we fear the LORD and we receive the wisdom and knowledge given by Him, our house will be well established.

The other thing worth to point it out is any person who studies know that, you will never know everything, you must keep studying. And knowledge is something that we should never give up. In the same way, we should never give up on fearing and trusting in the LORD, so his wisdom and knowledge might never stop flowing into us.

Now, how is your house built? It is never too late to start learning. Search the LORD with all your heart, mind and soul (emotions, reason and, body); keep on doing. He is faithful to fulfill His part of the bargain. Are you too?

The important thing is it doesn’t mean that because you do everything right that nothing bad will ever happen to you; it will happen. The difference between a wise person and a fool is: the wise won’t despair; the fool will and throw away all that he thought he knew.

God is the God of the storms and the calmness. You will find Him everywhere.

But to find something, you must search for it.

“Pela sabedoria uma casa é construída e pelo entendimento é estabelecida;

Se bem me lembro, no começo ele tinha medo do dragão, então ele conhece e confia nele.

My take on these stories // Minha opinião nessas histórias

The 2 Samuel 9 and 10 are about David’s kindness toward others. One person received his kindness humbly, knowing that wasn’t expected from that king in particular. Saul was the first king of Israel and did not obey the word of the LORD. Therefore, the kingdom was taken away from him and his lineage. God announced to Saul that he was going to give the kingdom to someone else. Being David. Because David was not a descendant of Saul, once he started reigning, it was expected that the new king, non-descendant of the former, would kill all the former king’s descendants so no one would stand in the line of succession. Bu David did not do that. Instead, he chose to show kindness toward the last person from Saul’s house.  Saul’s grandson accepted David’s kindness. And we have a beautiful story about grace.  Chapter 10, however, tells a different story. A story of a man who didn’t accept David’s kindness because that was what he was. A person who suspected everyone around him. He ...

Arise and eat // Levante e coma

  He came to a broom bush, sat under it, and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough,  Lord ,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”   5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once, an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”   6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the  Lord  came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”   8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19: 4-8) How many times have you wished that this life were over? I have wished that many times. Sometimes it is just too painful, or sad, or hopeless, isn’t it? You know, Elijah...

Choose to be full of...// Escolha ser cheio de...

Can you choose to be   Joyful? (Full of joy) Peaceful? (full of peace) Patient? (full of patience) Kind? (full of kindness) Good? (full of goodness) Faithful? (full of faith) Gentle? (full of gentleness) Generous? (full of generosity) Self-controlled? (totally self-controlled) Can you choose to be like that all the time? To everyone?   What other religion would promise you that? I am not saying that all Christians are like that all the time. No, we are not, unfortunately. However, we are prone to be more successful than others, do you know why?  When Jesus was lifted to the heavens after his resurrection, he promised that a few days later, His Spirit would come to live in us. The Holy Spirit is our helper. When we live a godly life, a prayer life, and are filled with the Holy Spirit, those are the characteristics that should be seen in us—if not all of them, at least most of them.  Would you like to live like that? To treat people like that? Well, I suppose so. ...
